ideas to use up milk quickly?

Make an icebox cake! They are so delicious!

You need 4 family size boxes of Cook & Serve Jello Pudding - Chocolate
2 boxes of graham crackers.
Cook the pudding according to package. Once done, take a 9x13 tray (or any kind) and put a layer of graham crackers in bottom. Then put a layer of the pudding (don't be skimpy on it!) and then a layer of graham crackers and pudding until the last layer of pudding is on top (I normally do 4-5 layers)
Then put in the fridge overnight and eat the next day with cool whip! It makes the graham crackers soft like cake and sooooo delicious (and will use atleast half or more of your gallon of milk!)

This sounds soooo good! I am going to have to try it!!! I have 1/2 a gallon of milk about to go as well; my little guy was sick and couldn't drink it. Also have some stale graham crackers! LOL

Make yogurt and it will then keep for quite a while. Just put the milk in a large pot. Add a large spoonful of plain yogurt. Stir. Cover with a warm damp towel and leave out overnight. Depending how warm the kitchen is you should have yogurt by the next day.

I would just let it go bad and then freeze it. Spoiled milk makes the best bread, biscuits and pancakes, etc. Whenever ours goes bad we put a cup or two in a ziplock bag, freeze them and then pull out one when we need to make something.

I know you have already decided but surprised by people saying don't freeze. I don't drink milk. My dd will drink it occasionally and sometimes use it in cereal, but I can't remember the last time she had cereal. I keep 3 extra containers that I use to pour some into when I get a galloon. So about a quart each and then leave rest in jug for fridge. The 3 I freeze I bring them out the day before I think we will need them. Maybe it is because we use 1% but there is absolutely no difference in the frozen and the fresh. I rarely run out of milk and don't have to pay the prices for a quart at a time.

Wow never thought of that. I think I'm going to do that and just not tell dd.:rotfl:

Why not? I freeze milk every once in a while and have no problems.

We freeze milk all the time..no problems! You could make a dinner using cream sauce..like SOS, we love that but use thin sliced chicken (like lunchmeat) or tuna instead of the chipped beef. Also, cream of potato soup..YUM..always make a huge batch and freeze some for later.

I grew up on frozen milk.

Just be sure to shake it before you use it.

After it is frozen the cream will all rise to the top.

My mom had five children and she would set out a frozen half gallon every night.
We all knew how much of that milk was "ours".
The person who opened it was supposed to shake it up.
If someone did not shake it the rest of us knew as soon as we tasted our milk.

You certainly can freeze milk, but it will never taste the same or have the same texture. It separates. No amount of shaking will make it go back the way it was. It will be grainy and have an off taste.

IF you freeze it, you have to do so BEFORE the Use By date, for food safety purposes. Once you defrost it, you should consume it within 3 days. Frozen milk lends itself better to cooking than drinking straight.

I always use skim, that must be why I've never noticed it seperating.

We use 1%. And while it does separate during freezing, it does not taste any different or have a grainy texture after defrosting. It will sometimes have big ice chunks in it from me not defrosting it enough though.:lmao:

Have some teenage boys over. I swear, mine would go through a cow a day if I would let them! :rotfl2:

We usually makeTapioca pudding or Bread Pudding with any extra milk we have.

The bread Pudding uses milk and also has a sweet milk sauce we put over it, so we use up a lot!

I must have read the question wrong because I am still stumped as to why someone would cut something out of their diet that is such a great source of protein, vitamin D and calcium??
