bestest, bestest friend in the whole wide world had a baby girl this morning :cloud9: (7lb, 12 oz by ceaserean - for anyone interested :rotfl2: ) so have a dash to Wales on saturday to visit, please give me ideas for gift for her. I have beautiful baby pressies already but need to treat my LizzyBeth!

what about a set of coins from the royal mint Carol ?

When my friend had her baby we got her a hamper filled with all her favorite things she couldnt have when she was pregnant! - Some nice wine, posh coffee, chocs etc. We also clubebd together and got her a mother and baby portrait session!

Something to pamper her, like getting her nails done or a hair cut? Food/drink she couldn't eat when preggers in a hamper?

I'm sorry Carol, I misunderstood you want a pressie for mum, I agree with everone else that something for her to pamper herself with would be nice ...

Aha I missunderstood too! I had a nice set of Neal's Yard for new Mums with massage oil etc. It was lovely. Like the hamper idea too

Congratulations Auntie Carol :)

I am trying to think of the more unusual gifts we received.

Have about an ornament - Molly was given a Nao Hippo (we like hippos!) when she was born. It's in the display cabinet at the moment but will one day be in her home.

or a picture for the nursery

or a watch me grow plan from Olan Mills or similar

I'll add anything else I think of - sorry not too inspired at the mo

Love the idea of the hamper with loads of pampering things in it:thumbsup2

Thinking back to after the birth of my two I would hjave loved the hamper idea.

everybody buys for the baby but nothing for poor old mum. How about adding her favourite DVD in there. When you're up in the middle of the night feeding there's nothing good on TV to keep you awake!

Have fun baby gazing!

Love the hamper idea! Something to really pamper her with, maybe a gift cert for a massage as well. :goodvibes

I guess you cant get wrong with pampering gifts popcorn::

Maybe a vaction somewhere, just for a day trip or something :goodvibes

you lovely bunch, I knew you lot would come up with some great things.
I love the idea of the hamper full of foods she couldn't eat when preggers, she's always been a cheese addict so that would be great - does anyone know though if its safe while breast feeding? Its been so long for me, I can't remember.
The pampering stuff for her would be lovely but as she's highly excemic its a bit dodgy but I have bought her some sensitive stuff from Boots for bath times
The DVD idea is just tops, thats fab, I will definately do that.
I have bought so far - beautifully boxed complete set of winnie pooh book, some scrunchies and pretty bits for mum as will have no time to do hair!, also lovely disney baby blankets, bath towels with hood, socks, scratch mitts. So will add the DVd and hamper of wine and cheese.

sorry, can't help you with the breastfeeding question, but what you have bought so far sounds lovely-what a great friend you are!!:thumbsup2 :goodvibes

Congrats to your friend Carol:)

DVD and pampering stuff sounds fab. Perhaps you could get her a beauty therapy voucher. For a massage or a facial.

Carol - what you've got so far sounds great.

If my friends got me something like this i'd be half tempted to have another :lmao:

Hi Carol

You could give her a Wilow tree figurine. They seem to have one for every occasion. My fried just had a baby and I gave her "Child of my Heart " and there is ones called "Mother and Daughter" or "Childs Touch" that would be nice. They have a big selection at www.ukgiftcompany.co.uk . We have a local gift shop that stocks them and I have seen them in Debenhams.

Ooo I love those. DS bought me 'Angel of Mine' when he was born (clever boy ;) )

Not sure about the breastfeeding food thing - seems to change every 5mins. Looked it up on the 'La Leche League' website and they suggest

Generally, anything you are happy eating is okay for you to eat while you are breastfeeding. Of course, there are exceptions to this rule. If you have a family medical history of allergy, it is worth being careful about your diet and avoiding known allergens during pregnancy and breastfeeding. If you notice that your baby reacts badly after you have eaten something, it may be best to leave that food out of your diet for a while. There is an excellent article on our Web site called " Allergies and the Breastfeeding Family," which may help you if you are worried about allergies.

Aw! thanks Jo, for looking that up for me, I won't give her an ornament - she's be likely to throw it at me, (not an ornament type of girl!) and as an ex beauty therapist I can do the whole facial/massage/manicure bit myself but I really think the hamper and dvd are excellent ideas. I will investigate her allergies though, she's always been hay feverish and excemic so I'll watch that.
She's always had a penchant for very fine rioja wine and cheese so I'll do a hamper of those.

her first baby by emergency section at the grand old age of 36 can't be easy so she needs a lot of pampering!

Have you ever met anyone who totally knows what its like to be you? to feel like someone is living inside your head, is part of your brain etc? I cant really explain it but that's what me and Lizzi are like - one and the same cell. Have been soulmates since we met at 14. She deserves the best. :cloud9:

Just to say that you sound like a really loving caring friend. My DSis is due in 2 weeks so I may use some of those great ideas too so thanks.
