Every year DD's show choir holds a silent auction in December. Parents make up baskets of items and during the monthly PTO meeting they are auctioned off.

I am trying to get some ideas for the baskets.

What kind of items would you bid on? It can't be too terribly expensive because we may or may not be able to get donations for the baskets. Any ideas welcome!

I was thinking of a Saints Fan basket and gather items with the Saints logo on it. But beyond that I am not sure.

The baskets have to be inviting enough to get people to bid on them. We want to raise as much money as possible on this.

TIA!!!

You do a baking one, a crafting one (maybe scrapbook supplies), one with various candies by a local candy shop, a movie one (movie tickets, candy)

Things that always went the fastest at the auctions we used to have:

Family game night basket with a few board or party games, some microwave popcorn and some theatre candies.

Any basket that would make a good teacher's gift for the holidays (coffee with mugs and sweets, etc).

Movie night baskets (a plastic popcorn bowl filled with microwave popcorn, theatre candies and a gift certificate to the local rental place).

Spirit baskets with spirit items for the school (t-shirt, water bottle, pencils, folders and some candies in the right colors).

A Christmas Morning Basket with: batteries, scissors and/or a box cutter, thank you cards, a pen and notebook to keep track of who gave what, cocoa and coffee, a screwdriver, trashbags, ziplock bags to keep track of little parts, and a santa hat for the gift "passer outer."

Since the auction will be in december... how about a
New Years Eve basket.... sparkling cider, snacks, noisemakers, NYE papergoods, a party in a basket?

I like the idea of the school spirit items....

at my sons school fundraiser those are popular too....

They also have one that has a school event.. like 2 prom bids.... or a class ring.
Maybe there is a school event or tradition that you can include in a basket. tickets to a dance... throw the first pitch at a special game.... read morning announcements... something different...

ooooohhhh, good ideas!! thanks folks! keep 'em coming!!

I can pick a lot of this stuff up cheap on Black Friday!!!

Our old church did this for a fundraiser and by far the most sought after basket was the handyman ones-hammer, screwdriver, tape measure, etc. Most people bought it because it made a great wedding present :thumbsup2

How about a gift wrapping basket complete with several rolls of gift wrap, matching ribbon and bows, tape, cards, etc.

A travel basket was popular too-magnetic board games, some word game/crossword puzzle books, disposable camera, wet wipes, etc. This one was done in a Rubbermaid tote for easy storage.

I usually get basket stuff at Dollar Tree. Get a subject and fill it up!:thumbsup2

I've seen beach, picnic, family game, cooking, bbq, pet, holiday, tea lover, coffee lover, craft, grilling, movie, gardening.

How about a basket of little kitchen gadgets, lemon juicer, pot holders, towels I know I would bid on stuff like that as I am always needing small things and hate to purchase. Also skewers, foil, ziplock bags. Hope you have a great auction. Wish I could be there that sounds like fun. Jo

Many of the most popular ones have already been mentioned, but the one that went for the highest $$ at our school fundraiser was the Gardening/Outdoor Play one. It was a small Radio Flyer wagon filled with gardening gloves, trowel, spade, potting soil, seeds, sidewalk chalk, Hula Hoop, bubbles, and a kickball. Very cute and I think it made double the amount of the second-highest bidding basket.

For my daughter's soccer association, each team had to make a basket. I made a money tree for ours. Each family pitched in 5$. It was a huge hit and we made over 500$ on that basket alone. I mean who doesn't want a money tree! Here is a picture:

I just bought a cheap flower pot at Ac moore, used a piece of pvc shoved into styrofoam in the pot. Cut metal hangers for the branches and hung the dollar bills on the hangers with tape. I thought it came out pretty well!

Also, for my daughter's school auction each teacher had to make a basket and one teacher made a money wreath. She had a cheap evergreen wreath and tied dollars and 5$ bills to it in the shape of bows. That was a big hit too.

My SIL used to do stuff like this all the time. Some of the baskets they had were tickets for sporting events, etc. but others had kid games, water play stuff (goggles, beach towel, lotion), adult night (champagne/wine, glasses, cheese), crafting, sports stuff (some had gift cards, others had team-specific stuff), golf baskets, home improvement stuff, pampered pet supplies, kitchen stuff... the list goes on and on! ETA - I forgot death by chocolate and also movie night.

Two years in a row, I bid on and won the (big) crafting basket - it included a 2 night stay at a craft hideaway that was donated by the owner.

Lotto tree. Buy a small artificial tree at a craft store and buy 20 Lotto scratch offs and tie them to it. Since it's in December, you could use a small artificial Christmas tree. This is always a HUGE hit at raffles.

I have also done:
