What are you doing for teacher appreciation week next week? :teacher: I just found out about it yesterday. Does your PTA handle it or is it left up to the Room Mother? I'm in charge of the Music Teacher's gift. :rolleyes1

Our PTA does something for the teachers each day...such as one day of a sweet treat in their box, one day a massage in the teacher's lounge (THAT was a big hit), one day a flower, one day a cookie bouquet and one day a catered lunch in the teacher lounge.

Our school's PTA pits small things in the teacher's boxes during the week'but on Friday the have parents sign up to bring desserts, salads or sodas for a potluck lunch. They supply sub sandwiches or pizza. We all eat together.

It is the PTO at our school...and that is my job this year. We are doing something each day: candy with a thank you note tied onto it, cinnimon rolls made by the cafeteria that are wonderful with juice & coffee, flowers & biscuits & juice, cake and punch, and a spa goodie basket the last day.

That is so nice! I'm a KG teacher who adores her job. it's parents like you who make it worth it. Little things mean so much!! I just might have to give a little trinket to my fellow teachers to show them how much i appreciate them too.

A gift card to the local music store would be nice. If you had more time, our teachers always liked this-early in the year we would have each teacher fill out a short questionaire about their favorite things-foods,colors,flower,store,books,candy,etc- these get passed out to the room moms for each class and they make a copy for each kid and send it home to the parents asking for whatever they might feel comfortable sending during the week-one day is definitely flower day(we also provide a vase)can pick them up at a goodwill or alot of teachers already have one in their room. The teachers loved getting lots of small and sometimes large gifts each day put in their "bag". The parents loved have all the suggestions of things that they could easily pick up at the grocery or target, like a bag of peppermint patties, or a $5 target card one day. Kids also wrote notes for the teachers and put them in the bag. The flowers were lovely, and one stem cost so little, or can come from someones garden.

I'm the PTO President at my kids school. We have a Hospitality Co-od and I gave her a few ideas, but she came up with most. Here's a copy from her email as to what we'll be doing.

Monday....Coffee and Danish day. "Thanks a Latte." (catered by local coffee shop)

Tuesday...Present each teacher and staff with a vase and flower. "Thanks for helping us Bloom." This is where the letter I will send home with the students will come in handy. Asking the students to bring in a flower, real, silk, homemade or even a packet of seeds.

Wednesday...Have a dessert day in the conference room and do a set up similar to the birthday celebrations.

Thursday...place a small votive candle or sash of potpourri in the mailboxes "You are 'sent' sational."

Friday...Round out the end of the week with a lunch from Substation. a Mary Kay consultant coming in on Friday of teacher appreciation week to do hand massages and a hand silkening treatments between 10 and 2pm!!! Totally free of charge!!!!

Some other ideas...
A recipe day, "Recipe for success". Ask the parents to send in a copy of their families favorite recipe to the teacher and assistant.

A Student Choice Day..."Thanks for making our lives fun." This is where they can be creative with ideas leaning towards fun items for the classroom or basic classroom needs...pencils, glue, etc..

Cards for their teacher...this would probably be on Friday. Ask the students to purchase or hand make a Thank you card for their staff.

Don't forget PE, music, librarians, etc. teachers as well.
We also have a sign in the front of the school that lists activities, no school days, etc. and we put TA week on there, so parents can do something special on their own too.
HTH!

Here is another idea:
A nice candle with this poem attached:

Teacher

A candle is like a teacher
Who first provides the spark
That kindles love of learning
In children's minds and hearts.

Like a burning candle
Teachers light the mind
Enriching lives and futures
By the sharing of their time.

So when you light this candle
May its glow convey to you
Warm appreciation
For all the things you do.

These are all great ideas!
And I absolutely love that poem with the candle, J&D!
Thank you everybody - I'm on it now! :sunny:

Our PTA sent home a note with specific things they need for the classroom. Monday we're supposed to send dry erase markers, Tuesday is Germ X, Wednesday is baby wipes, Thursday is stickers and Friday is glue sticks & pencils. I like it that they are small but specific items.
For the end of school, we're going to do a build-a-bear and put the new "Best Teacher" sash on it...

Our Room Mom told us that Teacher Appreciation week is May 8th-12th

She is asking the kids to:
Monday - Bring 1 flower (she'll have a bouquet of 24)
Tuesday - 1 candy
Wednesday - 1 school supply
Thursday - 1 piece of fruit
Friday - Room Mom is taking up a collection to buy the teacher a restaurant or spa gift certificate

Our PTO handles part of it and also encourages the room moms to put together something from the class. This year, we've decided to "invite our teacher to lunch". The week before, she is presented with menus from restaurants around town. She chooses what she wants and one parent from the class volunteers to bring it in (we live in a rural area and delivery is quite a luxury). So, she gets a tasty lunch and perhaps a few extra minutes of sleep in the morning, not having to pack her own.

We also take up a collection for a gift card and present it to her at the end of the week, and on the first day of the week each child brings in a package of Twizzlers (her favorite candy) and a poem for her and we create a Twizzler bouquet in a vase. I hope she enjoys it - she's really special! :goodvibes

As a teacher, I like lots of tens and twentys (unmarked) in a brown paper bag! :rolleyes1

I'm on the PTO in my DD's school (She's in Kindergarten) and we usually do a catered lunch for all the teachers/aides/etc. in the middle of the week. We also do a small something in each of their message boxes similar to what's been posted above (ie. a roll of life savers one day to say "You're a lifesaver", etc....
:) :)
Personally, I will send something in from my DD for her teacher and her teacher's aide, but I haven't decided what yet????
