I have a WDW vacation booked for December 1-6, staying at Grand Floridian. Trying to think of a creative way to spring it on the family. It will be me, my wife and our 2 kids (8 yo daughter & 5 yo son). We've all been to Disney before (last was Jan 2007) and they have been asking when we will be going back. I want to go ahead and tell everyone in the next couple weeks because my wife loves to plan the meals and activities and I want her to have at least 180 days notice ;)

None of them have any idea that they vacation has been booked. Any creative suggestions on how to spring the news to them?

Oooooo, what a great surprise!

A friend of mine on here had a great family surprise and used Fortune Cookies. I will see if I can find her story for you to read. Also there is a thread called "Keeper of the Secret" where others talk about keeping the trip a surprise and what they did to tell. I will have to figure out what board it is on.

Enchanted phone call...
You can have Mickey (or who ever you choose) call and tell everyone on the phone about the trip. My son still thinks Mickey called...not just a recording.

I would suggest that since mothers day is this w/e why not do a special dinner for her, and throughout dinner give her little gifts like for example... branhams guide to disney, and disney classics cd, a map, little things like that, and then at the end give a card (almost like a coupon book) that says something like "Good for one trip to disney and your dates" "Ride on splash mountian" Romanitic dinner alone" Wishes cruise" (whatever are ya'lls favs to do) I have seen several people do this as a way of telling their parents they are pregnant, and they absolutly loved it.

Maybe you could just tell your wife so she can start planning, but not tell the kids yet. I'd love to be able to keep that secret and tell my girls right before we get to the airport!! That would be awesome!! But I can't keep such a secret; I have to tell everyone that I'm going again!!

I like the idea of a Disney trip planning book for each of them wrapped up as a gift. We just did this last month, except the Easter Bunny brought my DD7 the Birnbaum's book for kids(she LOVES it and reads it over and over) and the Hidden Mickey's book for our DS5. Last year we kept it a surprise until a few weeks before and honestly, I wouldn't do it that way again. This year they found out in March and we are going in September and we talk about it all the time-which is so much fun! My DD has little itineraries for each park(as a Disney fanatic, I'm SO proud of her!!), and they like for me to read to them about the restaurants we're eating at, etc. Having done it both ways(waiting to tell them right before or months ahead of time), I prefer telling them earlier because we have so much fun talking about it!! Either way, they'll just be thrilled that they're going back! Have fun and let us know how you end up telling them.

I agree w/ the pp and have an enchanted phone call left for your wife... Keeping it a secret from the kids after she knows will be much more fun for the two of you to plan together...

Please come back and tell us how you told them!

Have a wonderful time planning & surprising them!
