hi.

the kids are currently 100% into Peter Pan these days (favorite book, favorite singalong video, favorite characters and dress up costumes, favorite WDW ride), so we are planning a Peter Pan Party for this coming Tuesday's DVD release...hopefully, the kids will like the movie (i previewed it a few months ago when i tracked down a copy of the video at the library...geesh, it's pretty violent!).

i am thinking of trying to decorate the house as Neverland (mermaid lagoon, Indian camp, and captain hook's ship), but we'll see how that works out:rolleyes:

we are dressing as Princess Tiger Lilly, Captain Hook, Tink, Wendy, and Peter pan. my parents and inlaws will be here, and i think they'll all be dressed as pirates (easiest costumes), so i was thinking more of a pirate theme would be easiest.

i have no ideas for what to do for food. pizza and salad seems easiest, but i was wondering if any one here has any super creative ideas??? some sort of fish seems appropriate, but i don't let fish in the house (the smell makes me sick). any other ideas?

(how good is life when THIS is the most pressing matter of the weekend?!!?)

thanks,

My children live for Peter Pan!

We love everything about Peter-especially the pirates

My son has had a pirate party for his past 2 birthdays.

To eat we had:
-Goldfish crackers-good fish without the smell
-red and green grapes-lots of treasure they could eat
-Mini hotdogs with toohpick sails
-long carrots shaped at the end to fit through a piece of celery (swords)
-Our drink was Kool-Aid (the clear kind) with frozen red kool-aid ice cubew (more jewels)
-I think we also had chips and I'm not sure what pirate thing they were

We went on a treasure hunt. unwrapped a cannon ball full of shells, walked the plank to earn a Capt. Hook hook, put on pirate tattoos, ate a pirate ship cake, (the other year we had a Jolly Roger Flag cake-much easier) of course we dressed up. Eye patches, bandanas, hooks, swords, earings, etc. The library had a pirate CD with kids songs and pirate jokes.

For tinkerbell -we had toy wings to dress up in and one neat food item was a cut up fruit kabob for a wand (You can use star fruit for a star on top)

Our three oldest dressed up like Wendy, Peter, and Hook last year for halloween. It was great. They wanted me to be Tink but I just couldn't swing it.

I can't wait till the release of Peter again on the 6th.

Have a great party!

I found this when I googled "peter Pan party"
The big message here is to keep things simple. Simple food is the best and easiest for you. Fish fingers are the obvious first choice, The main thing is to keep the food simple and little. After all the children will be very excited and more interested in your games and other activities.

However be creative. Call your eating area Mermaids Cove or Treasure Bay. Use green and blue streamers to depict seaweed and hang green and blue balloons out of reach. Cooking foil suitably placed could create the effect of water streaming down to a pool on the table. Disguise the edges of the foil with sand or small rocks to create a cove and maybe have a cave for the pirates to hide their treasure.

You could purchase a theme table cloth to match your napkins, plates and invitations or alternatively decorate a plain table cloth as a pirate map. This could double up later for “pin the flag on the hidden treasure” game.

Your centre piece could be a small pirate chest with jewels, necklaces and other pirate booty such as chocolate coins flowing out onto the table. Inside you could place the ubiquitous booty bags for handing out at the end of the party.

Alternatively your centre piece could be a birthday cake made in the shape of a pirate ship or desert island.

If your child is really into Peter Pan then chances are that they will have toys with a Peter Pan Theme which could easily be used as a feature of decoration.

OMG! That sounds like so much fun! Can we come?! DD 5 is soooo into Peter Pan. She was Tinker Bell two years ago for Halloween, and this past year she was Peter (Grandma made an awesome costume) and her little sister was Tink.

You got some great ideas already. Maybe have some pixie dust available to sprinkle on guests as they arrive. Club Libby Lu has great pixie dust, or just use regular glitter.

How about a Hot Dog Octopus on a plate of Blue Spaghetti ?

Or Wendy Tea Sandwhicehs? We had tea with Wendy on the ship and it was lots of fun. We had tea and biscuits (chocolate chip cookies).

thank you all for your ideas and responses. thanks, also, to those of you who posted some links.

perditamarie, i have to ask, what's a "peter pancake"?

i love the idea of the carrot/celery swords and the grape jewels, as well as the colored ice cube jewels (i'm thinking juice)...those will be good, healthy appetizers before dinner. i'm intrigued by the hot dog octopus, but i honestly just can't picture it--- i'm not very creative in the kitchen!

we're working on decorating the house...we made a teepee out of an old sheet and some trim boards, and i let the kids paint designs on it (i have to say, it looks really great!). i found a beautiful piece of blue shimmery fabric that i'll hang over a curtain rod and let flow down to the floor for the mermaid pool, and now i just have to convince dh that bringing sand into the house to make a "beach" around the mermaid lagoon is actually a fabulous idea! --i could have the kids decorate the beach with shells, and then for the party i'll bury some treasure on the beach!

i'm determined to do something for captain hook's ship (we've got a cardboard box from a sofa ), but i keep putting that off knowing that what i picture in my mind is NOT something i can recreate!

ahhh...it is so nice to be spending my time doing THIS...the kids have been sick since christmas day, and this most recent virus had us make an evening run to urgent care for xrays and a midnight run to the ER last week. they are FINALLY feeling better and they haven't been out of the house (other than dr's visits) in 2 weeks, so i'm hoping that we are DONE with illnesses for a few weeks!!!! i'm going a bit stir crazy in the house, so this party is such a wonderful distraction for us all!!!

thanks again,

Just google octodog directions and I'm sure you'll find what your looking for. It's really easy you just slice the bottom half of a hot dog into 8 strips drop into some hot water and your done!

i have never heard of this, but i LOVE it! we don't normally eat hot dogs, but this is a must for our party, i think (i imagine that it can't be too hard to produce the same results without the product)!

thanks for the info...
