We leave in 11 days for 5 nights at the DLH. :goodvibes

With 2 young DDs who never eat all of the food on their plate and a DH who needs to eat dairy-free, I'm looking for your suggestions on food items to take into the park, and also that can be packed in our suitcases. I did tortillas with pb&j on our last trip (make several in the morning, roll up and put in a ziploc bag), but that gets to be a lot of pb&j. I will have a soft-sided, insulated bag and an icepack.

What ideas do you have for good snacks to carry into the parks to help save on $$$? We won't be going to a grocery store, and I'm not too interested in having a delivery since you must wait around for the delivery guy now. I plan to pack our food, which will then clear room for souvinEARs. I am willing pack cold thing in the suitcase with the icepack (is that allowed??).

Thanks!

How about little bags of pre-cut apples. They sell them at the grocery store and also at costco. The costco ones usually seem to last longer. I've also seen them with little containers of caramel and carrot sticks that come with ranch, and celery that comes with peanut butter.

Since you said you would have an ice pack, how about yogurt (or go-gurt) or cheese for the kids. Maybe cheese and crackers?

Not sure if any of those things would be easy to travel with on your way to DLR. I'll keep thinking.

I love this thread since we leave one week from tomorrow and I've been trying to think of the same ideas. I'm going to buy a bunch of Larabars from Whole Foods to take with us since both girls really like them, they're easy to eat, and fill you up. I usually have them split a bar and if they're still hungry they can split a second one. I like your idea of the pb&j roll-ups, I need to bring the makings for those, as well. I'll probably also bring a bunch of the Silk chocolate soy milk individual drinks (my ODD also has dairy problems).

High protein snacks help curb our appetites longer than crackers, chex mix and such...

Turkey jerky
cashews or trail mix
mozerella sticks (although the OP is dairy free, maybe she has some soy replacement)
We use honey in our PB tortilla roll-ups
Protein bars like Luna or Lara

I have four little girls and going to DL can be very exspenive for me so I cut corners whereever I can. So meals are a big one for us because 3 of my 4 girls are very picky! So here is our list.
Trail Mix - Homemade ( fruit loops, cherrios, choclate chips, peanuts, banana chips and marshmallows)
Gronola bars
Dried fruit
fruit snacks
gogurts - (I don't think they have to be refridgearated)
fruit bars (they do crumble easy)
cheese it
graham crackers
salami
string cheese
ritz crackers
carrots w/ranch
apples w/carmel
apple slices (pre packaged)
We also buy choclate milk in the boxes, to go with instant oatmeal that we put in red plastic cups, that I bring with me. The moment my children wake up they want to eat! LOL!
I have also done Pb&J with bags of baked chips or pre packaged goldfish for lunch. We actually stop on a park bench and the girls eat and my Dh and I grab something. They now that they get a character meal and a snack each day in the park. They have no problem "working together" as we call at as long as they now that there is a common goal.
I don't know much about the non dairy stuff. Sorry I can't help there. We went to Costco they day before we left and loaded up there. It was about 100 dollars that was for their snacks, breakfast and lunch so that is 20 dollars a kid for 5 days... Pretty good when you do the math. That's how we could afford the dinner or breakfast each day. Sometimes we did the breakfast and then they filled up so much that they didn't want to eat again until dinner and then we left the park and ate kids eat free breakfast at Ihop. Usually for about 25 for all 6 of us. Sorry, I didn't mean to write a book. But I hope that I gave you some good info! :rolleyes1

Great suggestions so far! Thanks!

I will definitely add the pre-sliced apples to my list, I didn't even think of that! The girls like go-gurts, and I've done the frozen go-gurt thing before, I'll have to try that. I think I I freeze them and pack cold stuff togehter, that they will fly okay. Can you take go-gurt in a carry-on on the plane?

I will have to get a notepad to record all of these ideas. Who has more??? :)

I've also read people on hear talking about online ordering groceries to be delivered to the hotel that they are staying at. Maybe for the stuff that can go bad?? Anybody know exactly what store that might have been? I also remember reading something about an online deal for the first time of use a free delivery...Just a thought.
