We want to plan a dinner for just the 2 of us in this area. We want a quality dinner with nice atmosphere (nice can be anything from luxurious to really different... just something memorable) as we will be celebrating our anniversary. We already have PSs on other days for Flying Fish, Spoodles and Cape May. My dh is not crazy about the restaurants in France and British food does not sound appealing to me.

Based on Passporter reviews, we are considering one of the following:

Yachtsman Steakhouse (sounds expensive and ordinary)
San Angel Inn (need a non spicy entree; heard it is overpriced)
Restaurant Marrakesh (haven't tried this kind of food before)
Le Celier (is Yachtsman better for this type of food?)

Another thing we are considering is just ordering a la carte at the Matsu No Ma Lounge (although I am allergic to cigarette smoke, so I'm not sure about this)

What do you think? Any other ideas?

You might want to consider Palio, at the Swan, for excellent Italian food and a romantic atmosphere. :)

The best steak in the area you mention is Shula's in the Dolphin. It is more expensive then YSH or Le Cellier but worth it, imo.

Something memorable could be going to Teppanyaki in Japan. It was certainly a good quality meal when we ate there and we have very fond memories of it. We took lots of video footage of the chefs coooking the meal in front of us.

Shame your husband's not keen on the restaurants in France, or I would've recommended Chefs de France. We've eaten at Restaurant Marrakesh and while the food was good, we probably wouldn't go there again - we felt the atmosphere lacked something.

Hope this helps!

Another vote for Palio's in the Swan. Excellent Italian cuisine, and a very nice atmosphere.

We also like Tempanyaki in Japan, unless you have had your share of Japanese steakhouses at home. LeCelier was delicious, and a favorite of my family's this summer. It was expensive though.

We do love Cape May Buffet, and Spoodles though, and you already have those two covered!:):D:)

Here is another vote for Palio's at the Swan.

We had our anniversary dinner there this past August and it was great.

I would pick Le cellier over Yachtsman (just a personal choice).

First of all, congratulations on your upcoming anniversary! Hope you have many, many more and are able to celebrate them at at WDW!

If you are a DC member or a DVC member, you can get a 20% discount at the Swan/Dolphin restaurants (Palio). The DC discount is valid 11/1/2002 - 12/23/2002. As far as I know, the DVC discount is good now through at least 12/31/2002.

Don't be afraid to try Restaurant Marrakesh in Morocco. My DH absolutely refused to eat here until our DD (21) insisted. Said he would really like the lemon chicken if he absolutely couldn't find anything else on the menu that sounded OK. (No worries, he did). He's not a very adventurous eater, LOL! Well, he really did like the food and we all enjoyed the atmosphere and the entertainment (belly dancer, Eastern music). I personally thought the restaurant itself was very romantic - reminded me of Lawrence of Arabia (how's that for showing my age). :teeth:

Teppanyaki is also one of our favorites, However, you will be sharing the table/grill with 6 other people. We didn't mind that, but then we weren't celebrating our anniversary, either!

Whatever you decide, have a wonderful time!

Thanks everyone for the great advice. I noticed that no one mentioned San Angel Inn. I'm assuming that sitting next to the volcano is not as romantic as it might appear... is this true?

I was just going to comment on San Angel which my dh and I really enjoy. We found the atmosphere romantic and relaxing, but we did a late lunch. The food was mild enough for my Mid West dh, but zesty enough for my Texas taste buds. ( I grew up in the MidWest, but I've adapted to spicier Texas foods.) There is more gourmet fare at other places, no doubt, but we look for dining experiences that are unique to Disney. I also really like Restaurant Marrakesh and plan to visit both of these when we go back without the kids in the summer. We'll be going for lunch and getting a 10% discount with our AP's. We each left half our food at San Angel, so next time we're splitting.

I agree that Yachtsman sounds expensive and ordinary which is why I'm not going there. Le Cellier is on our list of possibilities because of my FIL's penchant for bland food. The Unofficial Guide hates it, but folks on this board give it great reviews. Marrakesh and SA have more unique atmospheres.

Just a note that we had a DVC discount at Cape May for dinner in 2001--don't know if they still do, but a discount is a discount.
You will love Flying Fish. I would even consider making that the romantic meal you are searching for. The steak is to die for.
If you do go to Le Cellier, try the cheddar cheese soup for an appetizer, it is delicious.

:smooth: I have never been to Palio's I will have to try it next time. Yachtsman Steakhouse was worlds better than The Flying Fish or Le Cellar, but for a truly quiet and romantic meal concider the bistro in France , the food is top notch and the service is super, try for a window seat for illuminations you will not be dissapointed:bounce: :bounce:
