Would love to hear some ideas for character autographs. I had a couple of ideas to share and hope you will do the same.

1. Get a photomat (the kind that goes between pic & frame) maybe 5x7 size? and have characters sign that....

2. Bring along a tshirt or plain visor to be autographed. (Heard they can't sign anything you are wearing)

Any other ideas guys :grouphug:

About three years ago I bought the kids inexpensive autograph books and cute pens before we left. I carry them in ziploc bags in my purse when we travel.

The cool part, though, is that I use an I-zone camera to take instant mini- photos that have a sticky back. I take pictures of the character signing the book, and then that photo goes right on the signature page. I also add a few other photos as we travel along and add captions to them, so the boys have a mini trip book.

The last time I looked for film, however, it appears the camera has changed, so be careful on matching film to camera.

We brought a Disney storybook (purchased at walmart) and had characters sign on the page for their stories. The few we saw (buzz, woody, and chip/dale) who weren't in the book just signed on the blank pages in front/back. Now when we read those stories my kids feel like they really "know" the characters!

I always have the characters sign their photo from a previous visit. The characters seem to like that. Last time chip was rubbing his face and really looking at his photo. His 'handler' said yes chip you are very handsome. Chip was very proud and showing everyone how cute and handsome he was. I love that story.

I love that!
(2 adults here)... What we enjoy most are the characters. Did I mention we are 41 & 35? We'll just stand there & watch them interact and laugh...

One time we were in the photo place in MK and the 7 dwarfs were in there... We had them all to ourselves. It was fantastic! My husband went to take my pic with bashful & and he backed up into a plant! He put his hands over his face and put himself in the corner! kept shaking his head...Everytime I think of that I laugh.

We made our own autograph books one year. I got spiral bound card stock books (they were meant to be 3/12 X 5 mini scrapbooks) and each of my son's picked out their favorite Disney fabric from the fabric store and we spray glued the fabric on (and hot glued a peice of cardstock over the inside covers to cover over the ends) then we added some character iron on patches and wrote their names in puffy paint on the front covers.

Although those books went over big with the characters (almost all of them pointed them out to their handlers or if they were face characters told our boys how awesome they were) they still ended up in a memory box once we got home and some time had passed.

We thought and thought and thought about how to do something that they could keep out year round on our next trip and hit upon a few ideas:

Bring a Sharpie and have the characters sign a plain pillow case. My boys LOVE these cases and unless they are in the laundry they are on their beds. The pillowcase takes up less room and is lighter than an autograph book so it was even easier to carry around. We stuck ours to a clip board for the characters to sign (we had a stroller to stick the clipboard in when not in use).

The next trip my oldest son figured since he had a pillowcase already he woudl have the characters sign the clipboard. We covered the clipboard in a white denim fabric and had the characters sign directly on to the clipboard. My son loves to use that clipboard to do his homework or working on drawing comics in the car.

On our upcoming visit we plan to have them sign a peice of canvas (it's only 9 inches wide but it's 36 inches long). **we cut it to fit a frame that we already have but it could easily have been trimmed with ribbon after our return from Disney** We plan to have them sign it and then hang it up in our sons' Disney motiff bathroom.

Happy autograph collecting! :goodvibes

Thanks for some great new ideas guys!

I like the idea of the photo "mat" but wonder if it would be hard to keep it in good shape carrying it around the parks.

Love the idea of the book too!

That was mine, and I think I may just bring it to the character meals. We won't have a stroller or anyplace to carry it around the parks.

We took aprons our last trip to Chef Mickey's. I just bought plain white aprons from the craft store. A friend embroidered my kids name on each (but it could have been done in paint) and I bought an iron on patch of their favorite character and put that on.

Then the characters at Chef Mickeys signed (I brought a fabric marker). We didn't do much other character autographs that trip so we only took the aprons to CM. This next trip we will be doing a lot of character meals so will bring it to all of the them to get more sigs. on it. They they can wear it for cooking.

I didn't bring a clipboard because I figured they would just sign on the table. I forgot that characters like Pluto, Goofy and Tigger can't sign that way--they have to hold it up above their nose. We made the best of it, but I felt bad for them. I will bring a clipboard next time.

I also bought a canvas tote bag last year and ironed on one of my favorite photos of the main "classic" characters. I had them all sign around the iron on on the front of the bag. The rest of the characters signed on the back. I will be bringing in back again this time for the final time--I should have all the sigs I want after this trip!

GREAT idea about the apron...I may have to borrow that one myself! I am always looking for fun things to bring home that remind me of Disney...wearing an apron with all of my "friends" signatures on it would be an awesome way! Great idea!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Last summer, we bought a rolled poster of the castle decorated for the 50th.
We took it around & had a bunch of characters sign it in silver sharpie.
It really came out great, we now have it framed in our office.

Another great idea. How did you keep the poster from getting too mashed up in the process of going around the park? I don't know if I am capable of that! ;)
Any other ideas?

The t-shirt idea is pretty cool. We did this once with our kids. We were in MGM and got Rafikis autograph. Because the shirts arent solid, the characters need somewhre to sign legibly. So I let them use my back. I would bend over a little. Well Rafiki got tickled. I could here him snickering and he was trying really hard not to which made it all the more funny.

They usually will not sign if you are wearing the item. We brought Princess t-shirts to Cindy's that were taped around a piece of cardboard for stability.

The shirts I bought from Disneystore had a small amount of lycra in them- I wouldn't recommend it. They had trouble signing because the fabric had to much give.

These are some really cleaver ideas, thanks for sharing.

I bought a deck of Disney playing cards for less than $2 that had all of the main characters (Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Pluto) and also a deck of Disney Princess playing cards. I bought a very small clipboard (about 5x7 size) from Walmart for less than $1 and then cut the length in half with my jigsaw. The whole thing fit in my DD's fanny pack. Both characters and handlers made a big fuss over what a great and novel idea it was. It sure made it easy to get the autographs and and a new way to get the same ones we've gotten in years past.

I'm a scrabooker so I carry colored index cards or cardstock cut into apprx 3 x 5 rectangles, and I bring a variety of colored markers and a small clipboard. When the characters sign, I put the card in the scrapbook along with the pictures of us with that character.

A few years ago when my DS's were 5 & 3 and getting ready to read and learn the alphabet we put together our own disney autograph book by alpabetical order. I bought a cardstock album, sticker letters and disney stickers. An example was the page with letter A- had stickers for Alice, Alladin, etc. As we would see a character they say the name, and figure out what page the character would sign. We enjoyed putting it together. Great mommy and sons time. And once we got to Disney, we had a lot of people in line, CM's and characters comment on the book and what a great learning tool. I remember when we saw the Mad Hatter, he was upset because there was no sticker of him on his page. The boys told him that he wasn't that "famous". Mad Hatter was speechless and we all had a good laugh.

I did the photo mat in October 2005! Everyone kept asking me where did I get the mat.. I kept saying back home... everyone just loved it.. it looked great after we were done too!

We had a huge one though 10x13.. we wanted all the characters on there.. it wasn't too dificult for us.. but I also was carrying around 12 x 12 paper too in a box for our scrapbook! I am a serious disney nut! :)
