We leave 2 weeks from today! Two families are going together and we want to have a party next week to celebrate. I am looking for some kind of ideas for a cruise theme that kids aged 8 - 12 will enjoy.

I'd love to hear what you've done in the past or considered doing!

Thanks!!

bubbles would be one thing you could do. Also those plastic leis aren't too expensive either.

Maybe you can give each child a disposable underwater camera or regular disposable camera as a party favor. You could put it in a goody bag w/a lei, crayons/markers, candy, etc...

Sounds like fun! Have a great trip!

I had to rush off last time, but I thought of a few more things:

* Instead of using goodie bags, you could use sand buckets with
shovels! (You could probably find them at the dollar store) The
expense of the party favors could be split up between both
families.

* Fruit kabobs

* Island/Mexican music

* Mexican food (tacos, nachos & salsa, enchiladas, fajitas ...)

* For parents: Margaritas, Bahama Mamas, daquiris

* For children: Fruit smoothies or virgin daquiris

* Play musical chairs w/Mexican hats (dollar store?). The
entertainment staff played a similar game at the Goofy pool w/
a bunch of men and some colorful straw hats! Every time the
music stopped, whoever didn't have a hat had stop playing the
game and another hat would be taken out of the game until
you had a winner.

Oh well, if I think of more ideas I'll pass them on.

Have fun planning!

We are going to do the same thing - our sailaway party is in October.

Here are some things that I have planned for our group:

Invitation to our sailaway party
Bon Voyage drinks
Leis
Bubbles (I make wrappers to go around the bubbles that say "Bon Voyage")
Candy Bars (I make wrappers to go around these too)
Caribbean music playing
DCL video playing
Horn
Folded napkins
I also made different posters to hang up that relates to the cruise that has different clip art on it.

I am going to attempt to make the landyards for the KTTWC

Goody bags for the kids that include a pail and shovel, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a pillowcase to get character signatures.

Do you have any other ideas if so I would love to hear yours.

With all of your "Bon Voyage/Sailaway" parties, you'll be lucky to have any moola left to go on vacation! Only kidding, but don't get too carried away. Save your money for that special item(s) on your cruise and have a little get together when you get back to look at each other's pictures and share your adventures. Happy cruising!

I vote for having the party BEFORE you go on your cruise! It will add to the excitement! The party favors are things the kids need for the trip anyways (sunscreen, disposable cameras, sunglasses, candy/snacks). You can take the buckets/shovels if you have room and you can also take the leis and bubbles for the sail-away party and tropical party. What a great idea to have the DCL video playing in the background ~ very creative!!! Sounds like the only extra expenses are in the invitations and drinks! Go for it!

You need music, not just any music though. I strongly suggest the Mickey's Dance Party CD (from the Disney Store), its much of the same music used on the ship for the sail away party - we still listen to it often as it reminds us of those great sail away parties when the ship leaves port canveral at 5pm on the day of departure! Make sure you play it loud!

Hey guys...I hope this isn't too long, but here's what we're doing.....First of all our party is in Sept so I'm hoping it will still be warm enough for the kids to swim (saves me from entertaining them!).

The music will be Jimmy Buffett and Beauty and the beat. The food is kabobs (beef, chicken, and shrimp) fruit salad (served in hollowed out pineapples-if I can afford it!) and lots of snacky foods. Does anyone have any other side dish ideas??? For Dessert I am making cupcakes for the kids with blue icing, press half in graham cracker crumbs (for sand), add teddy grahams witth gummi-saver life preservers, plastic palm trees (or you could use the little umbrellas). I did this for my son's kindergarden class and it was adorable!! The drinks will be margaritas (we actually rented a margarita machine!). Ill make virgin drinks for the kids.

I orderd all kinds of decorations from oriental trading company(www.oriental.com). I also ordered treat bags for the kids, Tiny bottles of bubbles that say aloha, tropical pencils, tattoos, ets. I am lining our walk way with tiki torches to set the mood. I guess that's about it.

Oh yeah, my Husband wants to buy a Tiki bar!! That's where I put my foot down!!!

TMcG88: We are on the same cruise!!

I love your ideas (we have little ones too) I think I will also use your cupcake idea - it sounds so cute and the kids will love it (so will the adults)!!

I have to admit that we fizzled out on most of the ideas you gave because we did not have the time/energy to devote which is so sad!

We went to Chi Chi's for dinner which we thought resembled Parrot Cay the most. The Mexican menu helped put us in the mood for Tropical Night! We all wore our tropical clothes. The wait staff brought the kids balloons and wished them a happy and safe cruise!

We went home and watched the Cruise Video, aaaaaaaaaaah!

We then let the kids make the cupcakes that TMCG88 wrote about... they were adorable! The kids even used decorating gels to add bikini's to some of the teddy grahams!

We forgot to hand out bubbles, but that's just more for the cruise!

Thank you so much for all of your creative ideas and although I was a loser about follow-through, hopefully, other people will benefit!

Less than a week away... I cannot believe it is finally here!
