DF and I are having 'our' christmas tonight. We will be exchanging gifts to eachother without the extended families.

With that said, DF suggested we go out to eat, but I want to stay home and cook. I also kind of want it to be a surprise as well.

DF loves anything meat -- chicken, pork, beef, ect. Other than that he is really easy to please.

Any ideas?

For dessert I'm making his favorite chocolate creme pie! :woohoo:

How about a steakhouse at home night? Get some nice steaks, your favorite veggie, and two big baked potatoes. You could even go fancier on the potatoes and make twice baked or homemade scalloped potatoes. Even get some really big sprimp for a shrimp cocktail appetizer! My DH loves when we do steakhouse nights.

Easy dinner but looks fancy - take a pork tenderloin - the long skinny ones - usually two to a package. Brown it in a skillet with salt and pepper, then slather with dijon mustard and roll it up in a Pepperidge Farm puff pastry. Bake at 350 for about 30-45 minutes. Use a baking pan that has a lip to catch the juices like a jelly roll pan. Once the pastry gets a nice golden brown let it rest for a few minutes and then it is usually ready to cut into thickesh slices. Sooo good and looks like you slaved over it.

Our romantic dinner is fondue. We've got an old set for the oil (we use chicken broth) using sterno and an electric one we use for the cheese. We work together to put the sauces for the meats together, and it's a lot of fun.

We like grilled swordfish with wild rice and a caesear salad.

If I felt like cooking, I would make DH a nice steak, baked potato, and a veggie.

If I didn't feel like cooking, I would probably order take-out from a place like Outback, Olive Garden, or someplace similar.

Other than that, I would find some nice ripe strawberries and a can of whipped cream.

Light some candles!!!

That would be DH's idea of a romantic evening!

I just saw this on The Food Network and saved it on the DVR to be made soon.
It takes 3 hours on low heat to cook but doesn't look all that hard

DF and I do a "stay at home date night" once a month, and we try to usually cook something new - but a lot of the time we wind up falling back on our favorite date night meal: cornish hens, twice baked potatoes, and bacon wrapped green beans, plus a bottle (or two ) of wine . Not real healthy, but it's DELICIOUS. :goodvibes

It all sounds nice but for me a romantic dinner is one that he takes me out to eat and decides on the restaurant. I don't have to decided on anything but what to eat. LOL I cook every night, I decided what we are going to eat and what time. The nicest thing that happens to me is if I don't have to worry about anything. I have always had kids at home to cook for so getting out is so much more romantic.

I would say this is HIS Christmas since you are doing all the work. Maybe he can take you out for YOUR Christmas. Tips? I'd say whisper sweet nothings in his ear and he won't know what he ate. :)

if you are both nekkid, there is nothing anyone can add to make it better. hope this helps. good luck
