I am looking for some suggestions on what to take over to my neighbors house for a dinner for their family. She is healing from a surgery, she cant eat to much, but i wanted to fix something for her family. I am struggling on what to make. I was originally going to make a chicken cassarole that they can cook, but I want to send something over that all they would to do is heat in the microwave, if they didnt eat it when we brought it over.

Tacos come to mind with fixins, I was going to prepare the meat, and they can reheat in the microwave. What do you think? What do you normally take over for a meal?

Thanks!!!!!

I'm in a moms' group that does lots of meals for women when they have babies. We're not a "casserole" family, so I always try to do something different. Lately I've been taking a ham dinner to people, and I've gotten rave reviews. ;)

The ham is pre-cooked, so you could take it over hot or leave it cold and they could microwave it. Twice-baked potatoes are really easy and could be reheated in the microwave. I just microwave the potatoes, scoop out the insides and mix with French onion dip and cheddar cheese. Put them in the oven for 15 minutes until the cheese melts. Not exactly the healthiest choice, but sooo yummy! Add a salad or bag of frozen green beans and some rolls, and you've got a great meal. Plus, they could use the leftovers to make sandwiches.

Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and a vegie

Spaghetti and meatballs with a salad and french bread

Baked chicken with macaroni and cheese and fresh fruit

Taco salad

Lunch meat, rolls and fixens with a bag of chips (lettuce, tomato, onion etc)

Just a few ideas, if you want more let me know!:goodvibes

If you have the budget for it a pot roast with all the vegies and potatoes is a really nice meal also.

'cause usually everyone can find something they like. We use turkey meat and only season the meat a little.

A side dish like potato salad and a treat would be nice too.

It's great of you to help out.. :)

For friends, I usually take over an enchilada dish (mine is more like a mexican lasagna than rolled enchiladas!) which can be frozen and then tossed straight into the oven or cooked the day I take it over. I might add in a bagged salad - easy for them to prepare and something healthy.

Sometimes I do a chili and send a bag of Fritos and some shredded cheese and sour cream to toss on top.

If the family enjoys dessert then I will send either some chocolate chip cookies or a pan of brownies too.

Thank you everyone for the ideas. I know i will include dessert, i just want to have a meal where they dont need to put in the oven or anything. Again thanks for the great advice!!

Chicken and yellow rice, rolls, sweet peas big favorites in the South anyway, we have made that many times for people from church who are sick or whatever.

I usually bake the chicken, I use breasts, but you can use a whole chicken too, cut up the cooked meat, and add it to a pot with the rice as it is cooking (I use the yellow rice in the bag with the seasoning in it). It is really easy and so good!!

My go to meals are chicken pot pie and shepards pie. Easy to take what you need and microwave it. So far everyone has enjoyed them.

i also make soups and stews that can be heated up. I generally send a nice bread.

Baked ziti with a salad and garlic bread. If you bake the ziti, they can heat portions in the microwave.
