Ideas for a Masters Degree gift?

I got jewellery from Tiffanys when I did my Masters, it's either sitting in the safe or in a box somewhere, I never wear it. I also got a trip to Africa, that I'll never forget!

So I would NOT vote for jewelry. Most of that generation (thank goodness) aren't about having more stuff anymore like ours was. Experience type things are preferred...

I have three holes in my ears for earings (2 in one, one in the other). I have three studs. 1 and emerald for my birth month, 1 saphire for when I graduated University and a diamond for when I got my Accounting designation. I wear them everyday and only switch out to other earings for special occasions.

You could have a special stud(s) made for her to commemorate her milestone accomplishment.
Hi; yes, makes a lot of sense...

A tattoo she'd have forever.... lol.
Yes, I read someplace that educated professional women are among the demographics that are most likely to receive tattoos. So yes it might turn out to be the sort of gift that would be particularly desired as a milestone in becoming an educated professional.

Does she have a goal that requires a PhD to obtain or is she just continuing in school because a masters in linguistics isn't getting her what she wants and she thinks a PhD will somehow improve that?

She has a long term goal of being a professor and researcher in psycholinguistics.

Coincidentally, she applied to her three top schools for her PhD, has had zoom meeting with many professors from each of the respective schools and has been informed she in on the short list at all of them. We are trying to wait patiently and see if she gets into any of them, fingers crossed!

alohamom; thanks for 'like'; it's certainly what so many of them do now, isn't it?

alohamom: really good to have an aim like that; what I would also say is that sometimes these subjects which are so specialist can maybe turn out to be more subjective than they might seem....Hope it goes well, anyway.

My DD is formally graduating on Nov 21st from U of T with her Masters degree!
I am over the moon proud but I am totally stuck for a gift.
I do not want to give her cash. We paid for her undergrad and have helped her out financially so I don't want to do that.
She plans to do her PhD in the states because the best schools for the niche area of her discipline are there (Linguistics) and she feels she has done all she can at U of T.
She was saying she would like to buy herself a Nintendo Switch for something to do in her down time (she uses her brothers right now) so my hubby was thinking we could surprise her with one. That plus a game will be close to if not more than $500 which feels like the appropriate amount to spend.
I am not sure it is the right thing to give her. I feel like we should give her something she can have forever. I am circling around jewellery but she is pretty darn fussy and would hate to buy her something she wont wear.
I would like to giver her something unique that she could cherish.
She has a cross pen set and we bought her a small diamond for her b-day.
Any thoughts?
I know my fellow Canadian Dis'ers are a creative bunch and might just help me pull a rabbit out of a hat on this one.
Congratulations! My son is a U of T grad as well ( different degree). I think the Nintendo Switch is a fabulous gift. She will definitely need some down time.
Wishing her all the best!:flower:

Well folks, now I am going to have come back to all of you in 5 years to see what to get her for her PhD gift because she was accepted into UMass AND Maryland for their PhD program and is on the waitlist for MIT!
She did well, alohamom! :) You must be really pleased!

Yes, a graduation is an occasion for which one's pierced ears can really be shown to good effect.
