That is a great idea. Maybe splurge for a romantic dinner at home. Maybe get some scallops for two and a bottle of wine. I did that for Valentine's day. I light some candles, made desert and honestly, it was really nice. (I waited until after the kids were in bed which helped. Lol)
Also, are you crafty at all? You could make up a scrapbook of your year together, gathering little mementos you have collected over the year. It doesn't have to be fancy. Walmart has some nice options. You could include photos and ticket stubs, cards, memories of your year that you write down on paper. OR you could get a travel mug that you can put those photos in. I've done that before. Made a little collage of photos from our year. Another idea is a coupon book you could make. Saying things that you will do. They don't have to cost money. Just like a coupon for a back massage, a coupon for a picnic, a coupon for a movie of your choice, a coupon for an hour to yourself. Etc. Etc. Hubby and I often don't do gifts that cost money. There are lots of ways to make him feel special without spending a dime. Good luck. I am sure whatever you do it will be special! :)

A good steak & ........ well, you can fill in the blanks :)

The gifts for the 2nd anniversary are: Traditional US: Cotton Traditional UK: Paper Modern US: China

We always do cheap homemade gifts depending on the traditional UK gifts - for our second year - origami!

My hubby and I like to go to the beach with a bottle of bubbly and since we got married in March we have the whole beach to ourselves:love:

We ordered Chinese food for our 2nd anniversary, since the second anniversary is "China." :) You could also make him something on paper since that's a traditional gift as well. Make a card? Finger paint?

This year is our 10th and we'll have a newborn baby. Our plans went from a week's vacation (planned long before we were expecting a baby) to...well...having a newborn baby. I'm trying to find something frugal and fun, too!

If your husband likes wine, buy his favorite inexpensive bottle and have it engraved with a loving message.

You didn't say what his favorite character was! If it's Mickey, you could make Mickey Mouse cake pops for dessert. I don't do all the detail work that the person on the website does-just the Mickey Head. I also bought mini plastic forks (in the toothpick section) to use instead of lollipop sticks as I can re-use them and they are rather cheap.

Make his favorite dinner.

Does anyone stick to the "traditional"? (paper, linen, coral, jade?) It can't be traditional if not many do it. And if you do.....why? I don't mean to be snarky, but why wouldn't you just buy a nice gift, or go someplace nice? Just trying to understand why someone would buy something wooden????

Make a paper snowflake bikini for yourself and turn off your cell phones (and unplug the landline, if you still have one) and just have fun. Nearly every man I know of would much rather have some intimate time than a cotton T or a China gravy boat.

I do. I think it is kind of fun to be creative with it. Sometimes we are just silly with it. For example on our first anniversary it was paper. My hubby got me a ream of computer paper. :) It wasn't the only thing he got me, but it was cute. For our second, I got flowers with cotton balls in it! :0 For our fourth I got him a floral arrangement with fruit in it sent to his office. For our fifth..which is wood lie you asked about, I got him a wooden pepper mill. Our sixth, I got him candy. Our 11th was steel so I got him some cool grilling bakeware and he got me some baking pans. This year is our 12th and I am already trying to think of a way to incorporate linen and silk. We will be in WDW so I am trying to think of how to include that too. We don't really do it to be cheesy, but to me it is just kind of fun and silly and interesting to see how we each come up with a different idea based on the same tradition. :)
