Traditionally I believe the first years gift is supposed to be paper, but not sure. I am looking for a fun idea for a gift for my hubby for our 1st wedding anniversary. We just bought our first house, so no funds for a fun vacation. :sad2:

But, that being said, I'm still looking for some other (less expensive) ideas. Any suggestions would be GREAT! You're welcome to include any links too. :thumbsup2

Thanks!

For Dh and my 1st wedding anniversary he bought me a puppy (Registration was the paper part...okay, that and a LOT of newspapers!) I bought him Tickets to a Detroit Tiger baseball game. We didn't have a lot of money at the time, but both thought that they were perfect gifts for us!

Happy Anniversary!

I'd stick with paper and start a scrapbook for your new home -- photos of the yard, house, inside . . . when you do projects in the future (and you will!) you will have "before" shots and can watch the changes over time. If you garden, it will be a great way to track what works (or not) from one year to the next.

Good luck!

Give him a voucher book, with each voucher entitling him to something special you'll do for him. Little things to the more....adult themed.

when is your anniversary (the month)?

we didnt go all out for ours...we just pretty much did dinner

what i like to do i find somthing they LOVE..like for my uncles 40th...hes a HUGE cubs fan so at the game hes going to we got a sign on the scoreboard & for only $40 donation!!!

Is there some place he ALWAYS wanted to go & just never did??

maybe a massage...we always get coupons for them around me!

if you do paper...you can always make him one of those fun coupon books with coupons for
good for one night of total control of the remote
good for one evening of fun
good for one day of fishing/golfing with the boys
& so on!!

MY DH gave me one share of disney stock. He bought it from oneshare.com and got discount thru mousesavers site I believe.

Since we got married in disney I bought my DH for our 1st anniversary a share of Disney stock(paper) from One share . It has a plaque and on daying happy 1st anniversary. maybe get a home dept stock since you just bought a home together.

I did a group of things and put it in a basket for hubby that reminded me of things throughout our first year. I did snacks from a road trip we went on, a book on the place we honeymooned, a DVD of a movie we went to, a gift card to the restaurant we went to the night we got married, etc.. all things from through the year... :lovestruc

We went through the gift basket together and he remember 90% of the stuff and what it symbolized.. something were a little random.. LOL! :rotfl:

He loved it and thought that all the thought that went into was what made it really special..

I just posted this link in another thread but this is a list of a whole bunch of gift baskets... you could do a theme one if you don't want to do a Year in the Life of the "enter your last name here" basket... !

(it is a christmas planning site but has lots of gifts ideas.. they also have a section on other celebrations- so you might want to ask there!):santa:

I got mine tickets to a Phillies game on our anniversary. Good gift, but it poured all day

I would just plan a romantic evening at home :lovestruc . Get a special dinner (like a lobster boil, if you don't have local gourmet shops that put them together, you can order one online) prepared. Light some candles. Get out the champagne. Put on a new teddy (that's the real gift :woohoo: !) and have a nice time together ;). I don't remember what if anything I got my dh for our first anniversary. He bought me a necklace. I don't think you necessarily need to get each other gifts, it's more important just to celebrate your relationship and show each other how special you are to each other.

:thumbsup2 Thats what I did for DH!!!

I guess the "paper" gift really depends on what your looking to spend ~ not alot means very different things to many people. You could buy him or make him a really nice sentimental card, make a coupon book, get him a gift certificate for a bucket of balls at the driving range, his favorite restaurant, 1 share of stock, tickets to some event. There really are lots of choices....wait till you get to tin, copper, and some of the other anniversaries.

What about artwork for your new house? A framed watercolor painting or even a nice print would be great. DH bought me a watercolor painting of a lighthouse we had visited for our 1st anniversary. 24+ years later, it's still a beautiful piece of art.

I got my DH a couple Stephen King books that he wanted. He got me a paper gift certificate for a one hour massage!!!

I got my cousin her her husband a reprint of their local front page paper from the day they were married. Through the newspapers website and a local camera shop, they printed the front page as an 11x16 and I just bought a nice frame for it to go in. It was around $25 - and I swear I paid more for the frame than the picture of the front page!

My in-laws got us a subscripton to...the paper! :)

For our first anniversary we went camping and out to a nice supper. We don't often exchange gifts (6 years) but we try to do something special. This year a friend from out of town took us to dinner and the three of us saw a movie. Not very romantic but he was thinking of us, and it was fun.
