good morning! We can't break the budget for this so I thought I'd ask here.

Do any of you have a 16 yr old boy who received a valentine gift from a GF -- one he thought was a great gift? If so, please help us out.....

thanks!

Baseball cap. Yep. Really romantic, but there you have it.

If he has one of the ever popular ipod's, iphones, itouches, etc....I think an iTunes card is a fantastic idea. I have two boys ages 13 and 15. Both love to get music and movies from itunes. They have special cards for Valentine's Day that have hearts, etc. I like them as well, because they are NOT super expensive. Cards can range from $10 and up.

I like the baseball cap idea... or maybe a t-shirt from a favorite sports team? :confused3

What about homemade cookies or brownies? Teen boys always seem to appreciate food. :rotfl:

Food- favorite snacks and candies or homemade baked treats.

she has plans to make him homemade treats so that's already on the list. She just wants to buy him something and we are struggling with what that should be. Keep the ideas coming!!!

Tell us about the guy....likes, dislikes? Athletic? Video Gamer? Bookish? Board gamer?

Let's start with nothing romantic...at 16, they need NOTHING to push those feelings along.:lmao: I'd probably go to Michaels and get one of those small wooden boxes and decorate it. Put photos, paint, beads, coins, etc. on it. Put decorations on it of things he may be into. His car, your daughters photo, his dog, favorite things and places, etc. It's a nice little thing that says she knows him well and knows what's he's into. Its always special to get something hand made from your girlfriend. He can put that on his dresser and keep things that are important to him in it...like love note from his girl.:thumbsup2

well, back when my DD was 16 she had those rubber wrist bracelets things made saying her name and her BF's. I think it cost her about $20 for 2 which is steep considering what they are made of, but he has not taken his off...ever ( hers is too big, kept slipping off so he wears them both) and they are almost 21 now. It was a great idea and let me tell you, not only was her BF blown away but all his friends:
a. because she put the thought into it and he wears a LiveStrong one, she knew he didn't wear them unless it had meaning to him
b. because it was manly enough, and she chose his favorite color
c. because she showed confidence that they would last
d. It wasn't over the top mushy

anyway, I forget the company but the minimum order was 2 pieces and she had to allow at lest 10 days I think. Just google and you will find it.
She also baked for him, a cake in the shape of a guitar, as he is a guitar player too.

I wish DS would have a girl like DD like him...he is cut from the same cloth as her, but apparently the girls at his HS prefer D-bag types.

I agree with the ball cap if he wears them. Or she could get him tickets to a movie they want to see.

What price limit are you looking to keep it? I second the itunes gift card. Put that inside with a card and homemade treats. Or you can do the baseball cap or jersey. Maybe one of his all time favorite movies that he may not have.
hmm....it's so hard to buy for boys!! Especially at that age!
Maybe a giftcard to the movies or to the mall. (Although the movie gc would really be for both of them I guess).

Baseball cap
Favorite sports team Tee
Itunes card
Cologne or an Axe gift set if he uses that stuff
Video game

It really depends on what the guy likes. Last year my DS16 (then 15) and his gf (who is a year older and drives) went to dinner (each paid for the other) then took their gifts (they bought each other foam swords at Michaels) to a park and had a sword fight. They had a blast and thought it was the perfect way to spend Valentine's Day. Not all couples would like that, so it really just depends on their personalities.

A few ideas:

- if he has an mp3 player, you really can't go wrong with an itunes gift card
- if he's into video games, have him bring his system (if you don't have one) and favorite games then have your DD give him his treats and play games with him as a date - my DS loves that his gf will play video games with him... he thinks it's the coolest thing since sliced bread
- if he's not into video games, rent his favorite movie (even if your DD thinks it's the dumbest movie ever like I do my DH's lol) and watch it with him

I know *my* guys would much prefer a "doing something for me" gift (like cooking dinner, playing video games, taking him to a car show {my DH}, etc) than a physical-object gift. Just a thought... :-)

By the way, I ordered for my DS16 to give his gf, 6 glass roses from amazon.
$25.00 shipping included. I got the different color ones but they had the solid red ones. Alot cheaper than real roses and something she can keep if they stay together or toss if they break up. It is sooo much easier being the boy than the girl.:lmao:

I know my boys would appreciate:
Itunes gift card
giftcards to movie theater
Hooded sweatshirt or tshirt
giftcards to clothing store or sporting goods store
if he's a gamer Xbox points are always appreciated around here :)

My ds' gf gave him a winter scarf with his favorite teams logo on it. Really surprised him and he thinks it's pretty special.

I'm 24 so I'm only a few years off of this lol. When my DW and I were still in school I remember our first Valentines Day together she gave me a small basket, that had my favorite candy in it (bag of runts lol, skittles, and starbursts), and she gave me an all white Boston Red Sox hat ($29.99 at Champs Sports for a typical baseball hat), and she gave me a photo frame with a picture of the two of us in it. I have since ate the candy lol, got the hat dirty, but in my office I still have that picture of the two of us. She also gave me a card, that had a beautiful letter in it telling me how even though we were young she loves me, and how important I am to her. How she is so happy to tell her friends about the stuff we do, and then she listed all the stuff that I did that made her so happy..

Hope a guy's point of view helps.

Way back when I was 16 I gave my then boyfriend a keychain with a soccer ball and his name engraved on the back from James Avery. I don't know if they still have those or not (they had all kinds of sports at that time) but that might be a good gift if he doesn't have a nice key chain. Also an engraved money clip would be a thoughtful gift. Of course back then making each other mixed tapes was really big too but since technology has advanced how about a mixed cd? He could always load it on his Ipod or listen to it in the car.
