Idea for BWV's - Rollercoaster?

OK - it might be a bit much, but for the seaside places like Jersey Shore (Wildwood) and Coney Island, Rollercoasters are a staple. One at the Boardwalk (BWV) would be a great addition.

Now - I dont know how people would feel about this, but during our stay the Atlantic Dance Hall seemed empty or not even open, but they could put a coaster there that goes out over the water, or when ESPN Zone moves - do it there. Or just extend the dock at some point - and put one up. Nothing fancy, maybe a loop or two, but I think that would be cool.

As far as the resort theming is concerned, it's already there - the "Keister Coaster" is inspired by the traditional roller coasters you mention.

I don't think Disney would ever put in a rollercoaster outside of a park. The reason's not as much financial (OK, well, when you come down to it it is) but rather safety. For a large entertainment company such as Disney, which is held to the highest levels of safety and design, to properly insure, maintain and staff one coaster, even a simple kiddie coaster, outside of a park that is set up for such a ride would require mega planning and funds. Even rides inside the park are an expensive endeavor.

I agree with the other poster who said Keister Coaster is there already, although as a clown phoebic, I'd prefer to see Goofy's mug on the end of the slide

You're about a decade to late. The original concept for the boardwalk was a seaside amusement park. Back in 1992 when only the boardwalk was completed, there were construction walls and placards with concept art of the park. A water show was also planned for Crescent Lake, but that was dropped. There was a rock outcropping in the middle of the lake that was to be part of the show, but I think that has been removed. Working title for the show was "Noah's Ark".

But I like it just the way it is. I think that the rides being so close would be distrubing to the guest of the villas and hotel.

I agree that the amusements would have been a problem with so many hotels nearby. But I think what really sunk the amusement park concept was the success of the DVC at what is now OKW.

BTW, some folks believe that the Boardwalk amusement concept was the genesis for Paradise Pier at DCA.

Rumor upon rumor upon rumor:

Disney Quest will close in 2008, ESPN will move to the DQ location, thereby being in a much more accessible location. Presumably the old ESPN would become a new dining venue.

Or a plush shop.

The Boardwalk is a wonderful area but I don't think it has even been allowed to live up to its full potential. When the BW first opened, there were many more kiosk's and stands. There was a roasted peanut stand, a wax hand stand, a popcorn wagon and the fortune teller, there may have even been a few more things that i may have forgotten. Atlantic Dance Hall used to be jumping a few nights a week with locals who dressed a la 1945 and the place was jitter bug city but alas, that was short lived....

I think Disney would be smart to infuse something new on that footprint but I just don't see it happening

I have an idea. Why don't they take those crappy amusement park rides out of Disney's California Adventure and put them up at BCV? Then they could bulldoze the tacky Paradise Pier area and build something better. If folks want tacky boardwalk, the Santa Monica pier is close and Santa Cruz is somewhat farther away.
Leave California Screaming though, that coaster is awesome.
