Idea about leftover points

Hi -

In reading all of the posts since joining DVC last month, I've noticed how many members there are, and also have wondered how I'm going to effectively manage my points. I'm sure eventually I'll find myself in a position where I'll have a few points ( I hope no more than 10!) left over that can't be banked. Now instead of renting them out, hard since there would be so few, I was wondering if there would be any interest in establishing with DVC an account where we could donate these points to this account. This account would then be used to help sick children with dreams of coming to DW with their lodging expenses. Now, I know this might seem far-fetched and there would have to be a lot of legwork associated with setting this up with DVC, I would definately take the initiative on this, but before I contacted someone in management at DVC, I wanted to see if there would be significant interest in what I was proposing. Please let me know what you think of this!!!!

How about pooling the points so that if someone is short a point or 2 (max) they can add a day.

This has come up from time to time and it is a wonderful idea. I think the problem is that DVC does not want to get involved in setting up a system. (Probably would be a major bookkeeping undertaking and they'd also have charities involved who would use the points.) It would be worth bringing up again...you never know when they'll change their mind.

YES! In fact, I did donate 40 points to my son's private high school last year as a fund raiser. They auctioned off a Sunday to Friday stay in a studio at OKW. It was a big success with the school getting about $1300 for it. I would also like to see someone take charge of gathering donated points to be used for Make-a-Wish. Just think of the nice 5 day studio stays we could put together for those children and their families!

It would be a bookeeping nightmare because points would have to be transfered to an account, and you are limited to howmany transfers you can do in a year. Maybe DVC would be willing to set up a donation account if someone else would manage it.

It sounds like a great idea. We usually do not have extra points though, we usually end up borrowing from the next use year.
