First time in the Park with 2 families. We're concerned about them getting lost (ages 6,9). From this Board, we got the advice to (1) introduce them to CM's right at the beginning (2) point out an "If Lost Meeting Place." We're thinking we need to get cell phones so IF they do get lost and don't remember the meeting place and CM's try to contact us, where to put the phone number ON the lost child. Ideas?

Just inside Walmart is a machine where you can make dogtags. I would make a set for each child and have them either wear them or pin them in their pockets. That way the infomation is there, the infomation is waterproof and you don't have to worry about the kids remembering anything.

I am using luggage tags for Child ID. I went to Home depot to get the paint sample Mickey Heads suggested here and I put their name and my cell phone number. Then I put them in the Scotch brand bag tag that I found at Wal-mart-2 tags for $1.97. I am going to put them on their backpacks that they will have in the parks.

We always have state issued ID's that we, the parents carry. They are great photos of the kids to pass around. Havent needed them thank goodness. I laminate cards with our cell phone numbers and an emergency contact at home. I also include the reservation number. The kids carry these in their lanyard ticket holder.

We used silicone bracelets that I ordered from here. They were inexpensive and worked out great for my 2yo and 6yo. The 6yo wore hers on her wrist ad the 2yo wore his on his ankle.

I liked this better since neither kid wears stuff around their necks routinely, and the shoe tags only work if you have laces which won't work w/ all our kid's shoes (like crocs or sandals).

I had them inscribed w/ If lost call mom at XXX-XXX-XXXX (cell) and on the other "side" the same w/ dad's info.

We thankfully never had to use them!

I remember when I was a kid, (late 80's & early 90's) all the kids has these silver engraved ID bracelets.....anyone know if they still make those?

Bracelets, tags, cards etc all come off or can get lost. I used a ball point ink pen and wrote hubbie's cell phone number ON our 3yo son. (As in ON his skin) I put it on the inside of his arm between the elbow and shoulder where it wasn't obvious to the casual observer, or I put it across his belly just below the breastbone. He knew that if he got separated from us all he had to do was ask a CM to call the number. It didn't get lost; it didn't wash off on the rides (but did later with soap in the room) and it wasn't a strangulation hazard. Plus, it was FREE.

Come to think of it, I believe I may have picked up the idea here.

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like I have several options! Makes me feel safer. *applause, applause*

We also used the silicone wristbands printed with our cell phone number (I got the idea here on the DIS). We used a company called www.SayItBands.com because they offered a toddler size (adult and youth also). You can order the number you want and they sent us 5 extras in different colors. The toddler size even fit our 11 year old too (she is skinny).

GREAT idea! I'm going to get one before we go, just in case....because you never know......

This is what we always did, and my sil does it now for my 4yo neice and 6yo nephew. In fact they now have disney styles!

We put them through a shoe lace - and they love their shoe charms. My sil puts her her name and cellphone on the charm. (Mom is "Jane" cellphone number is XXX). Its obvious enough for a CM to know its an ID tag but not obvious enough for someone else to read it and it dosen't have the childs name on it anyway.

Of course she talks to them about the what ifs of getting separated and that includes showing the CM the shoe tag.

On our family trip last summer with 7 kids under 9 we used the paper id bracelets, but the bracelets really bothered my kids. I ended up using medical tape and a sharpie and sticking it on the inside on my kid's shirts. I never pulled it off of one of DS7's shirt and everytime I pull it out of the wash I get a smile on my face.
