I'd like to learn to sew..Tips??

I have two young daughters and I always see such cute clothes on etsy.com. I'd love to learn to sew. Any tips on a pretty inexpensive machine? Should I try to find a class? Or could I learn some basics from online tutorials? I'd also like to learn to make simple window treatments and pillows. Any tips appreciated.

I took a course at our local high school, one of those "Continuing Education" classes they have for adults in the evenings. It was a few years ago, but I think it was once a week for 8 weeks or so. It cost maybe $50 or so...I can't remember for sure.

It was taught by a seamstress. The first class went over basics, then the remaining classes were spent working on a project of your choice. You provided the pattern & material, she was there to help you through it.

I went with a couple friends and we had the best time learning together.

Honestly, if I were you, I'd post your question on the Arts and Crafts board or the Creative Dis board. Those ladies are VERY talented. I'd start with the Arts and Crafts one. They embroider and I'm SURE a lot of them sew. You'd be sure to get lots of helpful hints there!!
