Just read on another website that Trader Sam's requires photo ID-is this all the time or only after 8pm, and is it for everyone or just those lucky enough to look "around 21". Me and DH are nearer 60 than 50 and just wondering whether we would need to take our passports with us?

We are 50 and 60 and did not get carded, sadly, lol. But we've only been there once, so not sure if that was luck or just that we were clearly of age (and not closer to that better safe than sorry line for servers).

Bring your ID.

Before 8pm you don’t need ID to enter. If you buy an alcoholic drink they can ask for ID and it’s up to cast member’s discretion. Sometimes we are asked, sometimes not. If they ask and you don’t have it they will refuse to serve you regardless of whether you look your age or not.

Does anyone know if they will accept a mobile drivers license? From an official app?

Thanks everyone. We visited Portland a few years ago and didn't realise Oregon has a very strict policy on ID. We only wanted to buy a couple of beers in a supermarket to take back to the room but No-go!

I wouldn't count on it. The report I saw the person had the official paper given to them at the licensing center until the actual license came in the mail and it was not accepted. Sadly, it seems the days of them printing the license on site and on the spot are long gone - so you need to plan ahead and then hope that nothing happens to yours before a trip.

Thanks! I know not everyone is on board with the mobile drivers license yet. It's an official ID in my state so wanted to be sure since I know not everyone is there yet.

The paper is only meant to allow you to operate a miter vehicle but it says right on it that it is not an acceptable form of ID. Mobile IDs are acceptable forms of ID but not common in California so it might be denied.

I’m 37 and always get carded at Trader Sam’s.

Ah. I guess I don't see what the big deal is about carrying a little piece of plastic with you. Most people are carrying a credit or debit card already. It's not like the ID/license adds that much more to it. (Obviously different if your only ID is a passport. Thuogh I cannot imagine walking around not carrying some form of ID even if I'm not planning on drinking. Basic safety!)

But yes - even appearing older is no guarantee you'll not be asked for ID. When I'm home, my dad and I go to the wine store he likes to get some wine to have at dinners. He's 81 and I'm 51 and we are each asked for ID every time even though they know him. If a spot checker happens to be in the store and sees them not ask for ID they can get fined.

Kinda confused why someone would go anywhere without an ID. Doesn't have to be passport at all, I've shown my international ID and it works just fine.
It actually has to be an official passport for all non US residents…
At least that’s how I understand the wording that’s posted on the Disney website…

So I have to carry around my passport all day if I wanna consume any alcohol in DL… I plan accordingly so I don’t have to carry it with me every day…

A friend experienced this recently. She has a CA driver's license, but her boyfriend is from Argentina. CMs asked for his passport, which he didn't have. They would not accept his non-US driver's license.

We've used 2 dif international IDs with no issues at both Trader Sam's and Oga's. :confused3

I'm glad they card and I wouldn't travel *anywhere* without a legal photo ID/passport accepted by the country you're visiting.

If you had medical or local emergency it would be a lot harder trying to figure out who you are, even if not drinking.

It's actually required by law in most countries for people above a certain age to carry ID. The US is lax when it comes to ID laws so Americans who aren't driving may not be used to it. For international Disney parks:

Tokyo - Foreigners are required to carry valid passport or residence card at all times. If you don't have it, you can be escorted to a police station and forced to wait until someone reports you missing and/or brings your ID but in practice, this is unlikely unless you are drunk or suspected of doing something illegal.

Paris - By law, you are required to have proof of identity which can be a passport or other ID card. While you can be arrested if police ask you for ID and you can't provide one, in practice, you will be requested to return to your hotel and prove your identity within a certain period of time.

HK - Required by law to carry ID. If you don't have ID and are stopped by a police officer, you can be arrested and held for 48 hours. This happened to foreigners quite a bit starting in 2019. I have been stopped by police in HK but not asked for ID in that particular encounter. They did try to accuse me of littering by pointing at random trash that wasn't mine though.

Shanghai - Foreigners required to carry valid passport and Chinese visa (or residence permit) at all times. Will likely be arrested if you are found by police to not have it but how long you are held will depend on the mood of the police at the time.

If you are visiting from outside of the U.S., you are also required to carry your travel documents on you at all times when in the U.S. U.S. citizens are not required to carry identification on themselves unless they are operating a motor vehicle.

The only acceptable foreign identification for purchasing alcohol in the state of California is a foreign passport. Don’t be surprised if your international ID is rejected next time you try to use it in either of these places. I think if you look old enough, some servers will overlook it and just go by their judgement that you are over age (which is legal), but I’d hate for you to get one stickler and have it sour an experience in one of those places. I had to trudge all the way back up to my room to get my driver’s license because I left my purse in my room when we went down to have drinks.
