Do we need any sort of ID when traveling via plane with our infant DD? She'll be jsut about 9 months old when we go to WDW.

If she's a lap baby, some airlines require a birth certificate. If you bought her a seat on the plane, you don't need any ID for her. Have a fun trip! :goodvibes

If you bought her a seat, no. If you're carrying her as a lap child, yes.

As a lap baby, sometimes you have to prove her age - best option is a birth certificate for this.

International travel - baby needs a passport at all times.

If for some reason you don't have a birth certificate (e.g. as an adoptive parent I didn't have a birth certificate for my DS until we finalized) you can travel domestically with a copy of their shot record.

They aren't looking to prove identification, just age, and if your baby doesn't look like they might be 2 they likely won't question you, but I'd bring it just in case.

I just flew to WDW this past week and home again with my 17 month old on my lap. I flew Southwest and they were okay with my son's shot record if I didn't want to bring the birth certificate. This was jsut to prove that he was under 2, so obviously if your child has hteir own seat no id is required. Call your airline and see what type of id they require? If they require any at all.

Just bring a copy of the birth certificate. I'm not sure if you need it, but it certainly wouldn't hurt. With tight security only getting tighter, I reccomend getting a passport at two or so if you travel often, even within the country (at least by then you should be able to recognize that it's the same person when they're seven :rotfl: ).

I have always brought a copy of their birth certificate when traveling with my kids before they are 2, but I have never been asked for it. So I would say better safe then sorry, I would bring a copy just in case :)

Passengers under 18 don't need ID to travel if they are ticketed.

So if you purchased a ticket for the baby you won't need ID but if you are flying with her on your lap for free you "could" be asked for ID to prove she is eligible to lap sit.

It seems to depend on the airline - some ask all the time (SWA) others only ask if a child looks close to 2 or if a strict agent is working that day.

The issue could be that if you are asked to verify age and can't the airline can make you purchase a full fare ticket for the child. Most will then refund the $ if you can subsequently provide proof.

The airlines face expensive fines from the FAA if they are caught with an unticketed passenger over 2 years old.

Thanks everyone!!!! She'll be just about 9 months old when we go and she's not a large baby, so no fear of her looking close to 2 years old. We'll be sure to bring a copy of the birth certificate just in case.

Do bring a copy. It doesn't matter if your baby looks younger than 2.

When I flew on SW, my DD was 6 WEEKS old and I had not received her birth certificate yet from the state. She was too young for shots, so I did not have a shot record either. SW almost did not allow me on the plane because I did not have papers for my DD (she was a lap child). Their policy, regardless of how old they look, is that you have proof of age if your child is a lap child. It worked out, as they conceded she was under 2, (gee thanks), but it was a hastle!
