ID for a toddler that they will actually wear

But if I happen to get seperated from one of my DD's I want to find them as soon as possible. Anyone can look at a bracelet or tattoo and call my cell phone immediately and say we have your DD here. But with a USB drive someone has to have a computer or what ever to access it.

That's what I thought, too. Way too many steps and too much delay in getting my kid back to me.

we bought clear address labels and stuck one to the back of their shirts every day.
we printed sheets of them before we left home w/ names, hotel, and cell phone numbers.
we figured they would not know they were there, and they were not really obvious unless you were looking for them.

I bought the rubber bracelets online I think from an online company and had our cell phone numbers engraved on them. My 2yo wore it on her ankle (she couldn't get it off) and doesn;t want us to take it off when we got home.

We just take a sharpie and write a cell phone number on the inside of her shoe. And have Q&A sessions - what do you do if you're lost? (Correct answer - scream for help and wait for a CM to find you - I figure someone will get a CM to her and I'd rather have her standing still than wandering.) What do you show them? She thinks it's funny to have to take off her shoe.

Another dog tag user here - wallmart now has disney styles too. I just put, Mom"s cellphone XXX-XXX-XXXX on it and it goes on the shoe. Its large enough to be obvious to a CM but otherwise just looks like a shoe charm.

I love all of these ideas. I was thinking a id bracelet, but then you really can't fit all the info on it so that wouldn't be good. I like the computer idea, but can you hook it onto something? It didn't look like it had a clip or anything.

Scouthawk, I love the USB idea. That is a new one I'd never seen before. How does your child "carry" it?

We are going to put it on a lanyard type cord. That way they can either wear it around their necks, or loop it around a belt loop and stick it in a pocket. We've been thinking about attaching it to their pin lanyards also, but we're still not sure if the older two (the girls) will be interested in pin trading, they haven't made up their minds yet.

The USB has a hole at one end for a lanyard/cord to go through.

I will also say, DS has had my cell phone number memorized since just before he turned 2...and DH's since 2 1/2. He has had to have someone call us in an emergency/stress situation (he got injured at daycare one time) and he was able to tell the teacher my cell number faster than the office was able to look it up. So I am not too concerned about him not being able to communicate it if he gets separated from us. And the girls know our numbers as well, and the older one will have a cell phone of her own, just incase as well...

My 2yo would have never worn the bracelet on his wrist... so we put it on his ankle!

Worked out great, I highly recommend it!

I had the Safetytat tattoos for our trip last week. Hated them! I am no firsttimer when it comes to applying temporary tattoos...I have two little girls who love the things! But those tattoos were awful! They are sticky like stickers when you try to take the clear film off...took me three or four tries just to get the film off one with out ruining the tattoo by pulling some of it off the backing too. Then, when following the directions to the letter, I still had problems getting the tatto to come off the backing in one piece without distorting so you couldn't read it...and then, when I was successful, the surface of the tattoo remained sticky so it stuck to everything...clothes, lint etc. It discolored in the pool the first time and was essentially unreadable. It was like having the adhesive of a bandaid on their skin at all times. NOT impressed.

Oh yuck! I guess temporary tattoos have changed since was a kid. Now I need a plan B...

Disney World has engravable name tags for sale in the parks. They have a several different styles that saw Walt Disney World on them somewhere. I know they have an engraving machine in the test track store and I know I saw them in other places too.
The tags are $10 and the chain(if you need one) is $2.
I had my DD's full name and my cell phone number engraved on it.
You could probably find something like this cheaper somewhere else, but this way it's kind of like having a necklace souviener.

I think those could be good in certain circumstances. But if I happen to get seperated from one of my DD's I want to find them as soon as possible. Anyone can look at a bracelet or tattoo and call my cell phone immediately and say we have your DD here. But with a USB drive someone has to have a computer or what ever to access it. I wouldn't have even known what it was if I hadn't seen this post. So while I think those have benefits for holding lots of info emergency info they might not be the quickest way to get reunited with lost kids.
I agree. I have a p-touch labeler so I was thinking I could use the USB for more detailed info and just put "ID inside" on one side and "call xxx-xxx-xxxx" on the other side. I do think this idea would work better for older kids that wouldn't be too shy around strangers to tell their names and btw, here's my mom and dads cell phone #.

Thanks for the response. I was thinking of pinning it to clothing but ds seemed to be interested in pin trading on our last trip. Connecting it to a pin lanyard might be a good way to go to.

You need to try some baby oil on the tattoo to remove the adhesive. It mentioned this in the directions, but I didn't do it when I tested one out on my son. Needless to say, his was sticky. But on my daughter, I did the baby oil and the adhesive was removed and the tattoo was fine.

I also didn't have any problems with removing the backing, discoloring, or anything like that. Maybe ask the company and they might have some suggestions?

I used a scrapbook tag that I had laminated and hole punched. Tied it on his shoe with a zip tie:cool1: . It had our cell phone number written on it :thumbsup2 We had a plastic bag of them to use each day.

I bought a pet tag and put our info on that. I also plan to iron on some labels with our info on it in his shirt. We will take a pic of him on our digital everyday.

I have already started teaching my son what Disney CMs look like. We have watched our Disney planning DVD a few times and I point out the nametags. We will also teach him a secret code word for pick up before leaving on the 21st.

I love the USB idea. I wish I had thought of that or heard about it earlier.

I posted earlier that we used the silicone bracelets successfully (putting the 2yo's on his ankle).

I picked the bracelets over other forms of id because of its versitility and reusability.

Dog tags need to be attached to something as do shoe ids, etc. My kids are wearing Crocs and sandals most of the time in the parks and neither work w/ anything attached to them.

The bracelets are waterproof so they aren't an issue on wet rides or the water parks. They don't have a ton of space on them, but I only wanted our cell numbers...I don't want to broadcast my kid's names.

We ordered ours from Sharene and were able to put the following on them:

If Lost call my mom at ##### (cell)
If Lost call my dad at ##### (cell)

I ordered four (one for each and then a back up for each) and the total, including shipping, was less than $12. We received them in less than a week.

In addition to the bracelets, we played find the CM every day at various times. Dd (6.5yo) really liked the "game" and it helped her figure out who was and wasn't a CM (since they are always wearing different things).

I really think that the bracelets were the way to go for us. Our trip was in December and we've been able to use them again and again since then at museums, carnivals, the zoo and most recently ...the beach!

Does Walmart have an engraving machine or are you talking about a plastic dog tag that you write on? I'm just wondering what I should look for in my Walmart. I like the shoe charm idea! Also, did you put the shoelace thru the charm? or tie it on some other way?

I think this may work for us, how did you order them? Is it somewhere local? (I noticed you also lived in the Phila. 'burbs)

Thanks!!
