ID for 2-year-old to fly???

The short answer is: no. The medium answer is: no you don't. And the long version goes something like: good grief, no you don't need ID for your 2 year old, what were these people thinking?

I've flown with my DD3 several times since we got her 2 years ago (she's adopted). Not once did I have to produce any sort of ID for her to fly, except to show her passport when we exited China and again 12 hours later when we entered the US. Never once on all the domestic flights we've taken (and there have been at least 8) have we been asked to produce ID for her. I do carry around a copy of her birth certificate, but that is more for protection against well-meaning people who demand to know why a Caucasian woman is carrying a crying Chinese child (true story: DD3 had a snit-fit while DH and I were waiting to check-out at Sam's Club, so he carried her out to the car so she could play with her toys while I finished paying. I got to the car a few minutes later to find him in Annoyed Mode. Seems that 2 people demanded to know if he was abducting the kid - never mind that while said kid was crying it was "Daddy - I want my mommy. Daddy I want to go home. Daddy I want my doggies."). Anyway, no, I've never been asked for ID for my toddler.

I don't think kids of any age need ID for domestic flights. DS9 went to Disney in January and October last year and they never asked for any sort of ID. Which is good, because I wasn't carrying any for him!
