icons on the far left

Can you please explain the icons on the far left. (Not the ones we can put - but the ones on the FAR left.) What does the envelope mean - and then the envelope with the black dot and then the envelope with the letters coming out??? I have looked in FAQ etc and cannot find the answer to this.

The envelope descriptions are at the bottom of every forum topic page.
