I keep reading this (I think I got it right....maybe it was ice wine?). If I remember correctly, it's something from Le Cellier, right? What is it?

Ice wine is made from grapes that are harvested/pressed when frozen. They're a very late harvest, and the grapes have a high sugar content. This makes the wine very sweet.

Ahhhhh!! So it's not like a slushy made with wine? (Forgive me, I'm not very knowledgable about wine :confused3 )

Nope, it'll be served like any other wine. I haven't tried it, but I saw how they make it on the TV show "Thirsty Traveler". It was very interesting.

As previously mentioned Ice Wine is a VERY sweet dessert wine. It has become extremely popular in Canada in the past 10 years or so. It is served more like a liqour than a regular glass of wine and many people have it instead of dessert (as opposed to with dessert like you might with other liquors).

It is worth trying once. Like so many other things many people rave about it, others not so much ... I'm in the not so much category but then again I'm not a big sweet food person so it's probably not that surprising.

Here is a link to everything you ever wanted to know about Ice Wine and then some

We've purchased ice wine here in Missouri for about $15 per bottle - and it is very sweet indeed. It's definitely a dessert wine.

Although...if you like martinis - we've made a very tasty ice wine martini using ice wine and cirroc vodka. :thumbsup2

Yes Le Celliar does have a very nice ice wine....just bring lotza $$$$!! My husband and I each had a glass about a week ago and it was over $30.00!

At LeCellier I believe it's about $11 or $12 for a (small) glass. But, it's very good! :)
That sounds about right. Last time I had a glass at LeCellier (as dessert), I think it was about $11.25. In January, I had a glass of the Inniskillin (same wine as served at LeCellier) at Narcoossee's for $12.25 (I just checked the receipt, since I've been tracking food and wine costs to assess savings with the DDE card). The higher cost at Narcoossee's is consistent with overall pricing difference between there and LeCellier.

To put things into perspective here, the retail cost of the same wine at our local discount liquor store ("Binny's Beverage Depot") is currently about $60 for a 375 ml bottle (half the size of the usual bottle of table wine). This provides four 3-oz or six 2-oz pours (dessert wines are typically served in smaller glasses than regular table wines). I think the cost per serving for the Inniskillin Ice Wine at WDW is actually quite a bargain compared to the usual mark-up of restaurant wines.

I got a really good price on Inniskillin Ice Wine, before Christmas. It was $39.99 for 375 ml. As noted above, my DH & I can get 2 small glasses each out of a bottle. This was for Vidal IW. The semi-local wine shop I got it from usually sells it for $49.99 a bottle. We prefer the Reisling varietal, but it's $69.99 per bottle (same size). I usually buy about 2 of the Vidal for every bottle of Reisling. We use it as a dessert wine for special occasions (i.e. cruises). It's definitely a special treat!!!

Got to love, Binny's! :thumbsup2 My husband went to a wine tasting there yesterday.

Ice wine is also seved at Artist Point often as part of a wine flight.

Since having ice wine for the first time at DW this year, it seems like it's been on every TV show and food news article I've read! I don't know if I just never noticed before or what!

I had the ice wine as part of the wine flight at Artist Point and also had the ice wine martini at LeCellier. I'm not a big wine person, but that stuff was just amazing!! It was extremely expensive though. When I got home I did a massive internet search trying to get it, but had very little luck (you can't have alcohol shipped to the state of Arkansas apparently). I ended up getting some ice wine tea from culinaryteas.com and it is pretty close to the taste and I drink it all the time now!!

Icewine oh Icewine, what I wouldn't do for IceWine. :cloud9: We tried this at the Food and Wine Festival, Canada Booth about 4-5 years ago, the brand they had then was Hillebrand Estates Icewine, oh, its like liquid honey, so GOOOOOOOOD! Bought 4 bottle then, about 29.99 each, then the next time we went they switched to the Innsillkin Brand, not as good as the Hillebrand Estates. Had a friend who went to Canada, and I begged him to bring me back a bottle of Hillebrand Estates, it was $50. Had I know that I would of bought more of them from Epcot at $30.

Still have that bottle my friend brought back, sitting in my wine rack, staring at me to open it, but if I do it'll be a while till I get another. Guess I'll have to make a trek to Canada. :car:

AH, I can taste the Icewine now :drinking1
anyone live in Canada and want to send me some??? :worship:

Ice wine is made from grapes picked by hand following a freeze of at least -10 celsius. It is a late harvest wine and the sugar content is very high. The grapes are usually harvested in January. It is the epitome of wines. Most of the Niagara region wineries have their own ice wine however Inniskillin has won numerous international awards for their product and is one of the better known brands.
As many of the posts have stated it is more of a dessert wine. The bottles are half the size of a regular bottle of wine. A real treat in my opinion...mmm...but not to everyone's taste.
