saw on a different post "I know about Ice Wine at LeCellier"
what are they talking about?

(edited to take the d off Ice - thanks)

Iced wine is delicious. When I had it there it was a sweet wine that is fruity. It is so good. YOu should try it if you get the chance.

Not trying to be obnoxious here, but it is actually Ice Wine, and not iced wine (LOL--I'm picturing wine with ice in it as iced wine :rotfl2: )
Ice wine is a type of wine that is made with special grapes. It is very sweet and fruity.

The grapes are actually allowed to freeze on the vine. When pressed, it takes about 3 frozen grapes to get as much 'juice' as one ripe grape....hence, the higher price tag. At least, that's what they told us at the Food & Wine Festival. ::yes::

SueEllen....do you know if they offer it on the Magic??????

We have ice wine festivals here in British Columbia at one of our ski resorts about a hours drive from here. We have also made some ice wine ourselves and have a few bottles somewhere in our cold room (must look for it). Just wondering if this is a Canadian thing or is there ice wine in USA and Europe? :confused3

I have not seen Ice Wine on the Magic, but they do have some very good dessert wines, and have a special reserve list as well.

I LOVE ice wine, but I prefer all my wines on the sweet side. The price tag can be a little scary, but it is delicious. It is generally sold in smaller sized bottles. :thumbsup2

In Canada, ice wine is produced in Ontario near Niagara Falls and British Columbia. Last year I went to a wonderful winery that featured ice wine.

Inniskillin is what you will get at Epcot. You can get the wine, and also a iced wine martini at Le Cellier. They also have sampled it over the past 2 yeats at the F&W festival at the Canada kiosk.

From what this link says Canada is the largest producer of ice wine.

Germany is also a producer. Their wines are rarer, as they do not produce every year. I've never seen american ice wine, although possibly some of the boutique wineries in Northern NY or Washington have the right climate /temps to do it.

At the food & Wine festival, it's like $4 for a very small glass, but it's totally worth it, at least to us! It convinced us to buy 2 bottles, which we savor little by little at home!

yes we do have ice wine in the US. there is a reallly good vineyard in VA called Rockbridge vineyards. Their Ice wine is Called V'dor it sells for about $20 and can even be order4 by calling 1888- 511- Wine. If you have never had ice wine but want to give it a try i HIGHLY recommend it .

This was excellent....I had it when at Le Cellier during my last trip. I believe it was around $18 a glass. And then glass was pretty small....not your regular glass of wine. But it was good!! :thumbsup2

Sign me up...this wine sounds fabulous...now I only have to be patient and wait another 32 days..... :teeth:

The price can be scary, also, they sell it in "half" bottles. Our local vineyard, Mount Hope, sells theirs for about $36.00. Most of their wine is $10.00 -- 20.00. So, the ice wine is twice as much money for half as much wine. It is however tastey!

Ice wine is fantastic! Even though I normally like my white wines to have a "0" dryness or maybe a "1", I love the much sweeter ice wines. We don't normally drink it at WDW, though, since it's readily available at home.

In Ontario we migiht pay about $50 CDN and up for a 375 ml. bottle (typical size for ice wine) which is more or less half size, so that would work out to about $100 per bottle, if you were comparing it to a standard sized bottle of table wine. I find, though, that since it's so sweet you tend to drink much less of it, too.

If you're looking for an alternative with most of the bang, but less of the buck, you could inquire about late harvest rieslings (maybe at Le Cellier???) which are also delicious, and have a similar taste. They're probably only about one-third or one-half the price of ice wine.

Okay - this is making me want to check to see what kind of bottles we have in the downstairs fridge. I want some ice wine when DH gets home!

Le Cellier does have a late harvest reisling (Cave Springs, I think?)... it also has Mission Hill Ice Wine, which is apparently sponsoring the F&W kiosk this year.

My understanding is that ice wine is a very Canadian product...we don't really have many vineyards in the US that get cold enough to grow it, but I believe there are some on the east coast. There are limited places in Europe that produce it, I believer. You all in BC are very lucky....Inniskillin is WONDERFUL, and it is nice to have a glass after dining at Le Cellier.
