Just looking to vent, Wednesday we were hit with a Freak April ice storm. Oh it won’t be like ‘98 it is April, blah blah. It is very cold. Cell towers failed, and are spotty. A good portion of Montreal is still without power, myself included.
I am just thinking of the food we need to throw out, two fridges full, and the freezers. Well, I better get on that before dark. Hydro Quebec said some people may not be restored until Sunday or Monday 😩

One of the lessons we learned here in California during the wildfires, how fragile the cell phone system is. The landlines (which were underground and need no power from the electrical grid )in most places never failed. But the cell towers burned up.

If it's really cold do you have a garage you could keep stuff in? Or at least get coolers for the expensive stuff and keep them outside? We've had a few occasions where we resorted to this, worked out ok.

Hope they restore your service soon, power outages are really rough.

Very sorry to hear this, @mommasita. The pictures and videos are amazing. Hoping you are up and running very soon.

Thanks Dan
I am not watching. I’ve seen enough for a lifetime or 2. This is the longest I’ve been able to connect and make a phone call in 2 days. I am thankful we have no damage and am grateful to other provinces for their help right now, we see a lot of New Brunswick trucks and they are being cheered on

No garage, thank you . I am going to try the cooler for the meat (exp like you say). They did post on the website and said 48 hours a freezer is no longer safe. I haven’t opened it yet, and I guess I should have done the cooler thing before now

Sorry to hear that @mommasita. I’ll pray that the weather gets better for you asap. On a positive note, I’m happy to see you on the Disboards once again.:-)

Thank you everyone! I had a blasting hot bath. I need to get out for all things fridge, but it seems to be quite busy at stores, so I’ll pause. My husband made coffee, albeit black, for the 3 trucks of hydro workers. They are so thankful, as are we. My 2 sister in laws are not back on, so we may have one over with the nephew. We also can’t go overboard, they are not yet connected across the street 😐. Funny how these things are at times.

🙏❤️

Keep being awesome @mommasita. :-)

Seeing the photos gives me flashbacks of 1998 my last winter in Quebec. Still to this day I get really stress about power failures and freezing rain.

Glad that your power has been restored.

Thank you.
I hear you, it was serious PTSD at one point, I think after that, it made us all a little uneasy when we hear freezing rain. I am just thankful we are back on, but see so many that aren’t. Even my SIL 3 blocks away. I’m so stressed, but starting to unwind.
THAT storm in 98 was just the worst I’ve lived through (weather wise), this was a close second. I’m older, and it’s not as simple.
also it still looks horrific outside, so many downed trees, I think we have more downed trees than then, it’s dangerous to walk anywhere. Driving at night, nope.
