Does anyone know if the ice skating rink will be in DTD again this December? Also has Disney released any information about Christmas events. If not, when do they usually get announced?

I would bet it will stick around for the next couple years. It was there when I was there in February, so I'm sure they'll have it in December, especially since it was Frozen themed to some extent.

Though I have to say, I wouldn't skate on it as it was when I was there. It was VERY wet looking when I was there, it looked downright dangerous. Maybe that's the Canadian in me talking, but our ice rinks would shut down temporarily if the ice got so soft that it was melting. There were some pretty deep skate ruts in it too.

If your kids aren't really good skaters (or even if they are, really, for best experience), I would go at the coldest time of day you can manage --probably at night-- and hopefully after they've resurfaced the ice somewhat recently.

Boy do I agree with you! I was so disappointed when we saw the rink last year. We had made all kinds of plans to enjoy a night of skating. I actually just stood there and laughed when I saw it, and then I got a little sick when I thought about all those people out there. Now with that being said, we are used to big ice skating rinks.......maybe this is the "city" version of ice skating but it wasn't for us. It looked like one bad accident waiting to happen :(

Yes!! I don't know if it was because it rained the night before (I never saw anyone actually skating on it), but yikes! I saw water, I never did see any ice... San Francisco is a city and has a nice rink there, we have a nice year round rink in our area and a nice outdoor season one so maybe I'm spoiled but that was tiny and watery to me too

I really recommend that you -- and anyone who wants to keep up with what's happening for the holiday season -- follow us in the Disneyland at Christmas/Holiday Season Superthread. One reason is that I posted an update on what we know about this year's season last week (and updated it again today) -- http://www.disboards.com/threads/di...i-november-13th.3358217/page-92#post-54556970.

Another reason to join us in that thread is that whenever any kind of news -- or rumor -- comes out that has to do with the season, I will announce it there. I found out about A Christmas Fantasy Parade and Olaf's Snow Fest returning this year, way, way before the Disney Parks Blog ever announced it. I also found out way before they ever confirmed it that the Jingle Jangle Jamboree would not be returning.

Anytime there is a new blog OR press release, I will post the link there. Anytime I read a rumor about anything having to do with the season, I will post it there. Just jump on in and join us -- we're friendly and welcoming, and we have a lot of combined knowledge about the season! :goodvibes Sometimes, when questions get answered outside of that thread, the info isn't always correct or complete. I've seen misinformation posted on the forum in the past, because the person giving it wasn't following the Superthread and was unaware of certain develeopments.

Truly a Canadian...hee. The rink itself is kind of flash-frozen in short order. Always believed the intent is not to skate for extended periods of time, simply to offer the experience. Certainly won't be seeing NHL Winter Classics on it anytime soon.
