Someone on another thread suggested putting ice packs under a towel in a stroller to keep your child cool while at the parks.

We are going in the beginning of september when it will still be hot. I think its a good idea but if the ice pack doesn't stay cold for too long it wouldn't be worth it.

has anybody on here does this and if so, how long does the coldness last?

Thanks!

I don't know how comfortable that would be.

Also, will you have access to a freezer? The fridge pics I've seen do not have a freezer section.

My oldest DD used a hydration backpack that was just the bladder with mesh straps. We filled it with ice and water when we left the room in the morning and then refilled with a free cup of ice in the parks. She loved the cool feeling on her back. She's 10, but the ones we have could be worn in a stroller or at least used to cool off with.

Hey thats a cool idea! where do you get the backpack at? thanks!

Here's a picture, so you can get an idea.

Our kids' have various colors (and no pattern).

We bought them from REI online, but they don't seem to sell this type anymore. The brand is hydr8r and they come in different sizes (I think we have 1.5 and 2L ones). I found them for sale at the Moab sports website and here's an ebay listing that gives you a better idea of how they fit. http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW!-Hydr8r-1.5...king,-etc_W0QQitemZ320331875490QQcmdZViewItem

We have two others that are a backpack style that we use to also carry snacks and anything else we need in the parks (those are very easy to find in stores), but this type would work much better if you're just looking for a cooling effect.

That is a great idea! Do you know if they make them for smaller children?

They are more of a hiking/biking type thing. Originally they made them for people who didn't want to stop to drink while biking across the dessert.

I don't think they have broken into the extreme kid athlete market yet.:goodvibes

You can check them out at Walmart. One of the first makers was Camelbak so sometimes they are generically referred to with that name.

Edit just went to their website www.camelbak.com and they do have them for kids. Just follow the links to Hydration Pack and then just for kids.

The ones we have fit my 2.5 and 4 year old, but they come down to the bottom or middle of their little butts. They really couldn't wear them all day in the parks, but they could hang on the back of their strollers. They usually just share with DH and I and our older DD has her own.

Camelbak does make a few styles for kids. Here's one example:

It holds less (1L), but I'm not sure what the actual size/fit is. The suggested age is 5 and up.

If your stroller canopy snaps or zips along the back, be sure to open it to allow any breeze to flow through. There are also clip-on fans that you can buy for your stroller. We added a Rayshade to our stroller canopy and it worked really well for keeping the sun off DD.

We just got back last night and it was pretty hot all of last week. My son found it unbearably hot. I brought a lot of ziploc bags with me and when he got really hat, we asked for some ice from one of the snack counters or counter service. He then put the ice pack on his neck, arms, etc. to cool down. When it melted (which was rather quickly), we just dumped it out (into some bushes).
