Ice fishing. Pros and cons

do I really want to sit in a frozen cabin on a frozen pond drinking beer all day?

It depends. Some of those ice fishing houses are pretty darn nice, with heat, and cable. LOL! If it's lacking the heat, I'd definitely take a pass. Drinking beer while sitting on a frozen lake just isn't that appealing to me. LOL!

This past Saturday I was up at 3 in the morning getting ready to go deer hunting. I was packing my snacks for the day. I spy a jug of apple cider. A thermos full of warm apple cider is one of my favs when sitting in a tree stand out in the cold all day. I promply heated up a pot full, went to pour it in my thermos, took a taste, WOWSERS!!!!! I forgot that back in September I made a batch of apple pie moonshine. That stuff has 190 proof grain alcohol in it! I promply dumped it out and made some hot chocolate.

I probably should have stuck with the alcoholic beverage as my hot cocoa that was left in the bottom of my cup froze about 10 minutes after I poured it! JK

That would have been my thought too! But while stuck in the Soarin' line a few weeks ago, we had the most delightful chat with a woman and her son from North Dakota. We learned all about ice fishing and they managed to make it sound really fun! Their ice house is heated, which would be really, really important to me...

Con: Your truck breaking through the ice into the lake on the way out to the hut. Yes, I know someone this happened to.

Well, there are lakes in MN that have ice house resorts in the winter. Those ice houses are nicer then some homes. They are fully heated with cable, internet, stoves, refrigerators, etc. It is actually quite fun if you are with the right people.

CON-no ice house sitting out on the lake on a 5 gallon bucket in Northern MN--done that one too-NO fun.
