Okay - I booked the ice cream social - we had time to kill at EPCOT before dinner at the Coral Reef at 6:30pm.

I have not really paid attention to reviews of this activity - can anyone tell me if it's good? or not so good?

Thanx

If you are referring to the Garden Grill at The Land (or whatever that place is called currently - I still call it the Land Grill Room), we did that a year or two ago. There was a coupon for either AP or DC holders, don't remember which, to get it free.

Anyway, each guest got a sundae that was much larger than we anticipated and the kid got a special one made to look like Mickey or something (its been a while). Characters came around - Mickey, Chip and Dale are the ones I recall. Maybe Pluto too.

It was fun and we all enjoyed ourselves. I don't know how much they charge for this because we got it free, but if it isn't terribly expensive - think what you would pay for a large sundae and some quality character time - then I would go for it.

Steve

P.S. Why are you doing an ice cream social BEFORE dinner?

Hi steve - what was the seating like? Will we get a table for 2 or will we be sitting with other people at a larger table?

Thanx

I've done the ice cream social twice already and will be doing it again next month. It is a fairly inexpensive way to take a break from the heat and hang out with some characters. The ice cream is about $7 and is very filling. You are seated at a table with just the members of your party - not a large group.

Seating is in booths. The restaurant rotates and you will be able to view some scenes from The Land ride. Don't do this too close to dinner - the ice cream is good and filling! Character interaction is also very good.

I too was interested in trying this and I did quite a bit of research. Definately mixed reviews. It is $6.99 per person (adults and kids same price).

The main complaints I read were regarding not seeing the characters (either they were on a break or visiting other tables and not getting to the patrons eating ice cream) as the Grill is still serving lunch to the regular patrons during that time. Also that the ice cream wasn't great and Beaches N Cream was much better value, etc.

Okay here are the good things I read:
Lots of great character interaction, a great way to have a character dining experience for not a lot of dough, nice break on a hot day, a good way to visit The Land restaurant w/o spending 20bucks per person for a meal. There are 2 seatings 3:00 and 3:30.

We decided to do it. I am looking forward to the experience - hopefully we will have good things to report!

The icecream really is filling! You may want to reconsider your evening ps and make it later.

We went to the Ice Cream Social for the first time in September. It was a great inexpensive way to meet Mickey, Pluto, Chip and Dale and relax and cool off. The characters were very attentive and they came to our table twice (except for chip). Our waitress was very attentive coming over several times asking if the characters had visited us, how everything was, do we want more drinks, etc. The booths were big and comfortable. The ice cream was good. My daughter's was cute, it was icecream with a cone as a hat and it was decorated with candy. She thought it was great! We will definitely go to the social again. Enjoy!
