My DH is lactose intolerant and we have a PS for the Ice Cream Social. Can they make substitutions for the ice cream like a brownie or something? Do I have to call in advance and let them know this? Thank you!

I do'nt know if they can substitute, but you DEFINITELY should call in advance to find out. Generally they can be very accomodating--IF you call 48 hours in advance.

I am lactose intolerant and living Wisconsin it isn't easy, but I can usually eat some ice cream and such with a little lactaid. I know that this doesn't work for everyone, but I was just wondering if that would help.

Per www.wdwig.com

Disney's Recommendation for Those with Special Dietary Needs: Let the person taking your Priority Seating (1-407-WDW-DINE) information know of your special needs -- they will make a note on the file. If you are staying at a Disney resort hotel -- Go to your Guest Services Desk and let them know what your specific needs are (a minimum of one hour in advance) and they will call the restaurant for you. The more specific and individual your needs are, the more lead time the restaurant will require... so you may want to call the day before. If you are staying off-property, call the restaurant via the WDW switchboard (1-407-824-2222) at least 24 hours ahead and let them know your needs.

I have heard that they make a killer sundae for the diabetic crowd, but I have no idea what they do for the lactose intolerant. I hope this helps. Mickey

Call ahead and they will use Rice Dream instead of ice cream - enjoy!

my DS has a life-threatening anaphylactic allergy to milk, eggs and nuts. He also thinks Rice Dream tastes like the "bottom of the cesspool" (He's 15.) With some negotiating, we have been able to get the Epcot restaurants, including the Land, to supply Sorbet for his dessert, which he much prefers to Rice Dream. The last time, they went over to the Coral Reef to get some.

I would call ahead and insist on speaking to the chef, and the arranger in charge of the ice Cream social. Don't count on a substitute automatically being there without some extensive confirmation.

In a counterpoint to this, we had a PS at Bomas. There were no dessert there he could eat. The chef personally made him fresh sorbet and a wonderful deepfried mango pastry. It was the most magical meal we had.
