Ice Cream Social and Sci Fi reservation

are the reservation process as hellish as CRT? (having me to wake-up earlier in the morning to make a call at 7am) or will they be less crowded?

The reservations are for the first 2 weeks of December.

Don't sweat it FatCow! With the exception of a few very popular meals (like CRT) you shouldn't have any trouble at all. You can wait until the 90 day mark for the last one, and then call all of them in at once. Also, you won't wait on hold NEARLY as long if you call in the afternoon or evening. Get some sleep!

With regard to the Ice Cream Social, be aware that the cost includes each of you getting a sundae that my daughter could not complete in 3 days.

but I will be able to meet Mickey and friends, right? I don't really care about the ice-cream part.

You will meet Farmer Mickey, Chip & Dale and Pluto. It's only about $7 for the ice cream (quite a deal in Disney!). We ordered water to drink so we didn't have anything else on our tab. And I didn't make our reservations for that of the Sci-Fi until about a month before going and we had no trouble getting reservations for either. We did need to change our Sci-Fi lunch reservations a few weeks before we went (Star Wars Weekend and a Star Wars parade was happening at our PS time). I had to get a late afternno lunch - 1:45ish I think but I still didn't have any problems. You should be fine in December.

I happened to wake up early today and tried calling:

1-800-421-3732

However, the office was closed at 7am, 8am, 8:30am (I tried calling 3 times).

Did I use the correct number or there's been a change after my trip in February '04.

I've read elsewhere that WDW is still dealing with the hurricane and to please not call today unless it's in regards to arrivals today or tomorrow.

My concern is not regarding Ice Cream Social, but more regarding the phone number (and now the hurricane)

My reservation time for CRT is Sep 8th, will they be open by then?

I don't know about the phone number. Go to the restaurant board and there's a post stuck to the top about getting CRT ressies. Seems I read it's best to use the regular number (1-407-WDW-DINE) since time is so critical. Good luck! I was a nervous wreck when I made the CRT ressies for our group.
