Does anyone have any experiences with ice cream makes?

I bought my little sister a snow cone maker for her birthday and she absolutely loves it! She's made a batch at least once a week since she got it in August.

I've been racking my brains trying to think of something to get her for Christmas. She has tons of clothes, perfumes, lotions, and pretty much has everything she could want. I thought since she loves sweets, she would enjoy an ice cream maker.

So I would love to hear any experiences, advice, or suggestions. I'm getting her some other things so I would be looking for an ice cream maker in the $40-$50 range

jenn -- we are using some of our anniversary money to buy the cuisinart one that they sell at crate and barrel. i have read good reviews of it. we should be getting it tomorrow, so i'll let you know how it works out. :)

it is $49.99 at c+b.

I forgot all about the one at C&B.
Hmmm....I have a gift certificate for there. Maybe I could get one myself and try it out :p

I have 3 different kinds of ice cream makers. One is the old fashioned kind that you turn by hand and uses ice and salt--makes great ice cream but is a lot of work! One is an electric one that goes in your freezer, the cord comes out the door and it does it's own thing in there while you go about your business--also makes good ice cream but not very interesting. The third one is one where you freeze the cylinder, and then put it in a housing unit, add the mix and the churn, and turn it by hand--this one also makes good ice cream but is a little more fun for someone young to use since they get to make it with their own hands. If your sister likes the snowcone maker, I bet she'll love this ice cream maker.

I live in Germany so I might not be as helpful - mine's like the third one on Baboo's list, you freeze the cylinder, but it's electric, turns itself, no hard work. We love it, use it often and everyone raves about the ice cream!
