Okay - I've got this one.

No - it's not being replaced, but.... out here in DISNEYLAND only, they are reopening the ride (AP preview today) with the same modifications given to Hong Kong IASW. They are incorporating several Disney characters into the ride.

How you ask? I hope to be doing a report with photos after my visit on Sunday, but til then, I'll try to describe. (There should be a thread on page 2 or 3 of this forum with Hong Kong Photos)

They are dressing some of the dolls in "character costumes" - just like our own kids play dress up. They are also adding some of the animal characters in various ways.

I think it will be charming, although it's very controversial to traditionalists. I am taking a wait and see approach, but I think the change will be positive!

no wonder Pete pciked you---thanks for cluing me in on this news.

Thanks! Glad to hear it was helpful. There have been so many rumors and controversies surrounding this upgrade - almost as bad as the WDW Space Mountain one! I hope to get some good pics to show y'all next week.

FYI - I was reading an LA Times article that someone had at work today. It discussed the ride opening in interviews with Disney management (aka - Tony Baxter) and they said that originally Mary Blair did artwork for a United States and Western themed room for the original 1964 attraction. This was left on the cutting room floor, but at Comic Con, they found actual pieces of that artwork for sale by a vendor. They then compared it with what they were doing on their own and he siad it was scary how much it matched!
