Hi,

I know lots of you have done add-ons. Are there many of you out there who have made a decision to sell and "repurchase" points in order to make your inventory the way you want? Ie. places you want/room for future DVC buying/smaller contracts etc?

Did any of you have regrets about your decisions? Did some of you do this even if you took a loss (ie. commissions etc)? I would love to hear some of your stories. Thanks in advance.

Lisa

Hi!

I'm currently trying to do this. I'm trying to add on smaller contracts to my BCVs and one of my BWVs contract. I have two BWV contracts with different UYs. I'd like to have just one UY for any BWV contract. I probably have the right amount of points. I've had to rent some out because it makes more sense to convert points into cash to pay for a mega cruise. I love staying at the BCVs, so I'm keeping my points there, but I haven't always held my plans firm after the 7mo. booking window. So, they may have well been points from another resort. This will not always be the case with us. We know that we want to go during Spring Break and during Christmas Break every other year. We all love to go to WDW any chance we get. We prefer BCVs for Spring Break/summer and BWVs for Fall/Christmas. My DH and I have decided that it's best to sell one of the BWV contracts before looking to buy any others. However, if one comes along with the right UY, I'll probably bite sooner than later!
When all 4 of us go to WDW, we'll need at least a 1bdrm. That's what type of accommodations my son and DH are used to now. When it's just 2 or 3 of us, we're fine in a studio or even a non-DVC hotel. I know on paper, for me I will break even on the sale of one of my BWV contracts, and I'll pay a little more for a new one. Hopefully, I'll find one with some banked points. I received a call from one of the brokers over Spring Break with a great BWV contract, but it had a different UY. I was very tempted to just buy it and sell off my other two. That would mean having to look for another contract matching that UY too. :cloud9:

Thanks Cinderpals....

Anyone else out there with stories or are thinking of tinkering with their point locations/totals? Besides straightforward add-ons I mean...

If DVC comes out with a new resort on the monorail we will sell one of our contracts to purchase that. Without number crunching, I don't think of it as a loss, we had many great vacations and stays using those points we would sell. We almost sold that contract for other points this year but ended up buying some points direct from Disney. Again, we weren't too full of regret thinking about it, but I'm glad it worked out that we didn't.

We have and are but in a different way than you framed your question. We are paring down our holdings. After a large family trip this winter, we plan to sell essentially everything we currently own. My plan at this time is to do a smaller add on just to keep my hand in and perks options. Then trade in to DVC through II, that way I get to have it both ways for much less. If CR or similar comes along, I'll add that one. If not, I'll have to decide whether to take the longer time or more in demand resorts. I'm currently thinking somewhere in the 50-75 pt range but one day I lean toward the minimum 25 and the next up in the 75 pt range. If it's a new resort, the points structure there will likely dictate my final choices.

I might sell my 50pt add-on to get a new resort w/more years on it. Or I might keep the add on and just add more points at a new resort. I have 200 pts. right now but would ideally like about 350 :teeth:
