I work with idiots..........

Oh boy...where to start...

Where I work we have 2 sets of really busy weeks during the year, so we hire on extra people to help out. We have hired some winners.

Exhibit A: The guy who asked my boss for an advance on his paycheck...on his FIRST day.

Exhibit B: The girl who wore shorts that were almost too short to be classified as shorts and slumped over in a chair, played computer all day, and would routinely double her lunch break and vanish for the rest of the day.

Exhibit C: The guy who talked incessently about the weather, skipped through the store singing "tralalalalalala tralalalalalala," wanted to have hour long conversations about what you were having for lunch and whether or not he liked it, and when cakes were brought in would finish most of one by himself and then bounce off the walls for the next hour and a half.

Exhibit D: The girl who would stand behind the counter talking to her friends and not doing anything- until a customer came in, at which point she'd stand up, look over at me or my friend (both of us actually busy doing work, mind you) and say, "Could you get that?" She also refused to learn my name (even though we worked together for several months and we all wore nametags!!!) I finally went passive aggressive and refused to respond when she called me by the wrong name.

Prosecution rests.

Don't you wonder what management was doing when they were interviewing these people? Hello, when your Jiminy Cricket hits you between the eyes - you should listen so we don't have to deal with these bafoons! popcorn::

DS14 has a T-shirt that says this. We got it at Steve & Barry's University store. They have great t-shirts (and some really raunchy ones too). We also got him one that says 'Procrastinators Unite Tomorrow'. Perfect for him!

In management's defense, we really needed help. Didn't make the bozos less annoying, but we were desperate!

Watch "The Office" on Thursday nights NBC! It HITS sooooo close to home!...ONLY The show is HYSTERICAL!

I watched that show once, but I never had to watch it again becuase I live it every day!!!

The most popular personalities in my office are:

The Cheerleaders: (No offense intended to any nice cheerleaders or former cheerleaders) These "ladies" were the Mean Girls in High School and they have never changed. Prancing around the office in their belly shirts, batting their eyes and giggling. The men just love them, all the women that aren't part of their clique HATE them.

The Divas: Divas are male and female, and the universe revolves around them and their personal issues. Nuff said.

The Perfect: Nobody can tell them anything because they know it all. There is nothing more enjoyable to these folks than being right and pointing out the shortcomings of others.

The Pets: these folks can fall in a bucket of slop and come out smelling like a rose. No matter how badly they screw up, nothing ever happens to them-in fact they keep getting promoted. They've made the right friends, live in the right neighborhood or are otherwise connected to management. Either that, or they've got pictures of someone with a farm animal.

I'm sure you've all got variations on these themes. When you start reading about all the losers in everyone's office, you wonder how anything ever gets done.

I was just talking to a co-worker about this very issue a little while ago. Someone who sits near her comes in at 11 AM every day (normal hours around here are 9-5). And we're supposed to be doing OT every day. At least the bosses here don't have a problem firing people who don't do the job.

Mine isn't anywhere near as bad as the coworkers you all have to deal with. But sometimes I wonder what she's thinking. See she is my new supervisor. We're both admins - the only 2 in the office. I wasn't deemed experienced enough for the head admin position (I really think it's because I can't work overtime due to childcare). So they hired a woman who is temp - to - perm. This means that I am reporting to a temp for four months. If she does a good job she'll be hired permanently. But while she is a temp she is on probation so to speak. This also means that since she could so easily be let go she should be on her best behavior.

The past two days we had a sales team meeting in our office. A VP and a Director for the corporation were in the meetings. When these guys are in its understood that we should do everything to make them happy and to be on our best behavior. The conference room is right next to the front desk and has a glass wall. The new super sat at the front desk yesterday talking on her personal cell phone for 15-20 minutes. Everyone in that conference room could see her. I just can't believe that it didn't occur to her that this was a big no no. If I were a temp wanting permanent work I would be doing my best to follow every rule and be the model employee :confused3 .

She also is resistent to processing FedEx shipments. I was out sick on Friday and even though she knows we have a regular pickup she didn't bother to prepare the interoffice mail for FedEx. This caused one of our people to get in trouble because the documents didn't make it to corporate by Monday morning. She just doesn't seem to care.

Of course, even though I have been on my best behavior and did EVERYTHING for the sales meeting this week - even though technically that group is under her jurisdiction - she'll probably get made permanent, get a huge raise, and be made employee of the year.

Although I do have to say that since I really did a great job for the sales meeting that I got a lot of appreciation from the VP and Director. In fact, everything these guys needed they asked me. It was almost as if they considered her a receptionist and me the one in charge. :teeth:

I'm glad I found this thread today. I was thinking the very same thing. Yesterday our assistant middle school football coach was fired for asking about new uniforms. They changed the name of our school 5 years ago but the uniforms still have the old name. I think it was a legitamate question.

At our faculty meeting yesterday our principal told us to do whatever we have to to give D's to the retainees. The policy in our district is to move all retainees up to 9th grade at the alternative school if they pass the first quarter. I agree that these kids are creating serious problems in the school but I'm not going to just give them a grade to get rid of them. She also said that if that goes against your ethics to tell her and she'll switch them into a class where the teacher doesn't have a problem just passing them.

See my post about the sub next to me for a serious idiot.

DH was in a staff meeting with his VP a few months ago. At least one of the temps was included in the meeting, b/c when the VP started speaking she asked, "Who are you?" He's not the kind of person you should ask that of...in a large meeting, no less... :lmao:

Is that legal? That doesn't seem right at all!

It is only because there are no laws for middle school promotion like there are for high school. These kids are all 16 and in the eighth grade. I agree that it's not right. What makes it worse is that she has decided that we won't retain anyone next year. We'll still have summer school but it won't matter if they go or not. She's just going to pass them on.

I gave up wondering a long time ago. When I worked retail, our store manager left and we were given a new manager from another local store. She was more than a few fries short of a happy meal. She started giving everyone very little hours or crappy hours to try and make everyone quit. She wanted to hire her own crew of employees. (We knew what she was up to so we annoyed her by happily staying.) Well, she had enough payroll to hire one girl. Guess what? That girl was the one who rarely came in, was always late, and was stealing. Excellent choice there.

In my office now, I'm lucky enough to sit next to the man who makes personal phone calls constantly and talks really loud so you know exactly what's going on in his personal life. Apperently he thinks that because he has money and vacations all over the world I sit on pins and needles waiting to hear about it. I have enough drama of my own, I don't need to know his also.

Yeah...that'll be good for our leaders of the future. :rolleyes2 Sheesh. She does realize that just passing them on without learning the basics of where they are now will just make them fail again, right? Bummer that you have to deal with that. :guilty:

OOHHHH PICK ME!!!

K, girl I work with, let's call her Sue....I got Sue a job with me at my part time job...

Sue decides to start fooling around with a married man at our full time job. And everyone knows! And then, because I am a manager at my part time job, she thinks she can text message me when she calls in sick, even if I am not the manager on duty. What is wrong with some people???!!!

Hey, I just bought that "I see dumb people" mug. Isn't that funny? I got it especially to bring into the office. I have this one person that sits behind me that is a "loud talker". She talks really loud and uses the speaker phone as well. Conducts all calls like that. I can't hear my phone calls! And she is "always right". Most people in the office just wander in whenever they please and abuse the lunch hour rule. There's one employee here that is a "tatler". She rats out everyone to make look better.

I love The Office, but my DH refuses to watch it...it depresses him because it's so much like real life :teeth:.

My coworkers aren't that bad, it's the management around here that takes the cake. There's our dean (I work at a school in a univeristy) who refuses to talk to anyone but a handful of people...he stays in his office almost all the time. His right-hand "man", the associate dean (who just left for a new job teaching), was the main person he'd talk to. She was much more personable but very insincere (i.e., when I had DS, I got a card from her congratulating me on the birth of my beautiful dauther...and I'd been working directly for her for the few months before the birth!). Now that she is gone, the dean has surrounded himself by three "yes men", all of who he made assoc. deans and none of which are qualified for their jobs...they got the jobs by sucking up to him. Our school is in massive debt, there's no oversight because our dean refuses to exercise his authority (he'll say one thing, then the minute someone complains about his decision he'll reverse himself), programs are added at the drop of a hat no matter how financially feasible they are, budgets for everyone except faculty salary has been slashed, new people are not being hired when worker bee employees leave, the only new jobs that have been added are upper management positions, and the dean doesn't understand why we need to recruit new students as "we have enough already". I could go on.

I used to work for a defense contractor, and amazingly they had the best management structure and the best work environment I've ever worked in. There was only one bad boss during my tenure there, and the worst thing about her was her obvious playing of favorites (inviting selected coworkers out for lunch, to her beach house, etc., while openly telling those of us who weren't invited about what she was doing with the select few). Other than that she wasn't bad at her job. But the favoritism wasn't fun.

One of the guys here told me something that always gets me through days like that -

it is I D 10 T Day!!! (idiot day)

:-)

That mug earned me a tag!!! :rotfl2:

I kind am direct support to two bosses and indirect support to 45 people. Now when I need something (to meet a deadline) from 6 of the 45 people. I generally have to beg, plead, cajole and downright threaten them. But heaven forbid if they ask me for something and they have to wait a couple of hours to get it from me. One actually called me today 5 minutes after he sent the request to see if I was going to do it today. On a bright note I did get the new boss to buy into if you make me wait, I get to make you wait. Don't get me started on my office space sharer that cracks gums and chews at her desk and I am not talking just gum.

I wonder if she is thinking they will get more individualized help at the alternative school? Personally, if they are 16 and still in middle school they have pretty much proved they either can't do the work or won't do the work. How much extra effort does each teach take with these kids that is taking time away from those that WANT to learn? It might be time to move on.
