I Won a Trip to Disney World!

Hi everyone. I haven't been on the forum for a long time. The last time time I was in Disney World was 2008 and I haven't been able to afford to go back. Now I won an amazing trip. Last month I entered the ABC Family 25 Days of Christmas Sweepstakes. On Thursday I was notified that I was the grand prize winner. Here are the details:

A five (5) day / four (4) night trip for you and up to three (3) guests to Orlando, FL, on Sponsor-selected dates to visit Walt Disney World® Resort! This trip includes: [1] hotel accommodations (one standard room/quad occupancy, including room tax) for three (3) nights at a hotel at the Walt Disney World® Resort selected by Sponsor at its sole discretion; [2] one (1) night stay at the Cinderella Castle Suite in the Magic Kingdom® Park at Walt Disney World® Resort, subject to availability. Accommodations at the Cinderella Castle Suite will be subject to blackout dates through December 2014; [3] five (5) day Magic Your Way Tickets with Park Hopper® Option; [4] flights to/from Orlando, FL + ground transportation to/from hotel and airport if you live more than 250 miles from Walt Disney World® Resort; [6] $1,000 Disney Gift Card for winner only, and [7] services of one (1) Disney VIP Tour Guide for eight (8) hours for five (5) days. Apparently I will be contacted by a Disney travel representative within a week or so to start the planning. I can't believe we will get to stay in the Cinderella Castle Suite. I don't know if I will have any choice regarding which resort we stay in for the rest of the trip. If I do, I'm not sure where I will pick. I am soooooo excited. I will keep everyone updated.

It's really nice to see people actually win those things. You assume someone had to win, but you never really see who wins, and I'm the sort of cynic who's like "suuuuuure, someone won". So yay!

Wow, that is a nice prize!! Before you accept, talk to your accountant or CPA because the government (both Federal and State) is going to tax you. It depends on your tax bracket but that "prize" would have cost me about $4,000 to $5,000 in taxes. I wonder if you could sell it, then pay the taxes and still have money for a decent vacation?

Mom is that you??? Just kidding! My mom was kind of freaking out about that too. I checked into it and with my tax bracket I will owe about $2500-$3000. We usually get more than that back in a refund so we won't get much of a refund if any next year. I will also put extra back just in case. I would not considering selling or opting for cash instead. This is just too amazing of a trip to give up. You can't buy a stay in the Cinderella Suite.

I definitely agree that I wouldn't pass it up. Cinderella suite?! I would die!!
