I wish everyone would just accept it

I believe this is known as "cutting your nose off to spite your face"

Similar to the schools that banned all extra-cirricular programs in order to avoid having a Gay Straight Alliance.

In the end, they only hurt the students.

What a shame.

What a bunch of ignorant fools. :(

How stupid is that to require an opposite gendered partner for a DANCE?

What about those kids who don't want a one on one date, but would rather go with a bunch of friends, regardless of gender. Heck YEARS ago a kid in our family went with a small group of friends all of the same gender as they didn't want dates and the sexual performance pressure that often accompanies those sorts of events. :(

Let's hope it doesn't end up being the young student who pays yet another higher price for their stupidity. Nothing like singling someone out to be a target.

Hmmmm

Really sad for all of the students!

She should have done what I did!

THat's what my daughter did last year for junior prom. This year she isn't going but a bunch of girl friend's of hers are renting a limo and going as a group - no dates.

My son's prom was two years ago. I love what they do at that school. The prom itself was at a country club or something. Before the prom, all the kids reported to the school where the auditorium stage was BEAUTIFULLY decorated. Each couple was introduced, walked out, and posed for pictures. It was great seeing all the couples all dressed up. There were several same sex "couples." Some were friends and some were real couples. They were then given their tickets to the prom and they were off to the country club. This gave a great picture taking experience as well as a fashion show. And of course it prevented the kids from drinking before the prom. I loved it.

This is just another reason that the LGBT community needs to be aware of what's going on int he news. You can't just sit back and believe things are going well in our fight for equality. I like the site JoeMyGod for my current events.

Sad. :sad1:

This is the best (sarcasm) quote:

"district officials told McMillen she and her girlfriend wouldn't be allowed to arrive together, that she would not be allowed to wear a tuxedo, and that she and her girlfriend might be asked to leave if their presence made any other students "uncomfortable."

So what is a student to do if a heterosexual couple makes them uncomfortable. They gonna shut down the whole event in that case too? Doubt it.

Such a ridiculous and sad situation.
I never realized a school board made a policy that a date must be of the opposite sex!:confused3
I mean really, what nonsense. and what closed minded people on that school board.

we are waiting patiently popcorn:::)

I'm not giving this crap away for free! Get in line at the book store and pay retail like everyone else! :rotfl2:

I know a guy in the informercial business.. maybe we could get 'SlapChop Vince' to play you in the infomercial.

I heard Richard Simmonds is busy tho.. so that's out.:goodvibes:lmao::cool1:

No.

Then they would fail at their goal of shaming and making the lesbian couple a target of their peers because it's their fault the prom was was cancelled.

Doing the same for a heterosexual couple wouldn't adequately promote their agenda of hatred and bigotry. :)

Has anyone seen the documentary film, "Small Town Gay Bar", this school is near that same area of Mississippi. Such a heart-breaking film, I can't begin to understand the underlying hatred that surrounds places like that. And people wonder why gay/queer proms still need to happen.

I did see that movie. It was really kind of sad.

Now I want to see if my local school board does anything like this!

My dd and her GF will be seniors in the fall. They are very open, and active in their school's GSA, and they co-founded an RYA group.

Some of the other kids have become accepting of them because they're a "cute" couple...but they still get grief from certain teachers if they walk the halls holding hands. They haven't decided on prom yet. They've heard mixed stories about previous years...

I can't imagine the Blacks and Whites separated for a prom :sad2: People are so ignorant. Imagine how the suicide numbers would drop if we all just learnt to accept each other. That will never happen. However, we can try our best to educate everyone on the most important differences in our world today(religion, ethnicity, gender, size, sexual orientation, etc).

This is so sad. I wonder if you could sue the school system for mental anguish.
Just when you think we might be making headway these idiots keep showing up. I really feel for these young adults. Hopefully everything works out ok for them.

They also mention they hope the parents will get together and throw the kids a dance. Sure, 'cause then it's a private function and the parents can discriminate against the couple, instead of it having to be the school board. The poor girls are getting screwed over by the students, parents and school board. When will people pull their heads out of the butts and see the damage they are doing?
