I wish Disney would bring back Captian EO for a limited time

I loved Captain EO! A couple of weeks ago, it occurred to me to look it up on YouTube, and I ended up watching it there. Great memories! :) It would be a great tribute to bring it back.

Agreed! I always loved Captain EO, and it would be especially nice now. :sad1:

If you google "Bring back Captain EO" you will find some petitions in progress. Go sign those too.

And if they did, Disney would probably be persecuted for trying to make money off of MJ's death. I vote no. Captain EO is gone, and available for purchase on ebay.

LOL! No, they can't be.

Disney owns the rights to the film, they can play it if they choose to, and I'm sure that if Disney ever wanted to bring it back, it would be done with the blessings of the Jackson family, although such blessings are not required and Disney woudl face no legal hurdles.

To see Captain EO at the park, people would have to pay their admission to see it. Not to mention that Disney wouldn't just open it without some sort of announcement or fanfare.

As a mathematical equation: Captain EO + advertising = tickets sold = Disney profiting from MJ's demise = Social uproar, especially from non-Disney fans.

Edit to Add (8 hours later...): I just realized, MAH, I think you thought I meant Prosecuted, as in legal proceedings. No, I meant Persecuted, as in to harass; distress; annoy..

First, yes, I'm mean. It's take me nearly 50 years to perfect this...I used to be nice, but got over it!

How is it that everyone is forgetting the reality of the creature that was Michael Jackson? I think this is a sign of the great ills of our society...we are able to dismiss a man's evils because we are dazzled by his talents.

I feel sorry for him for his sad, twisted life. I feel sorry for his children, the lives they've led so far and whatever may come for them in the future. I'll acknowledge that he was magnificently talented....

I can't and won't separate what he was from those feelings. I wouldn't watch the film and wouldn't expose my children to it. He's nobody I want in their universe!

I always wanted to see Captain EO! I'm not sure I'd go back to Disneyland for it, but I might go check out the YouTube video.....

However if they open up Neverland Ranch for tours, a la Graceland, I will be over there in a heartbeat! Nothing like walking down the paths of MJ's private Disneyland while speculating into the mystery of his tortured psyche....

Plus I want a ride on those bumper cars.

While I appreciate your opinion, he was an icon in our lifetime and he will remain an icon for many generations to come...Although I believe he was a deeply troubled man/boy his "evils" were never proven, was he odd yes did he act inappropriately yes but EVIL I'm not so sure about that! I think he was a grown man who was NEVER taught how to deal with real life and didn't know how nor was he ever able to lead a life outside of the public eye ever! He had been a star for the last 45 years and will continue to remain a star even in death.... It is sad that his children, who many have repeatedly stated were loved very much by thier dad will have to continue thier lives without him there and to continue with "he was evil" is not in the best interest of those children!!!
He was eccentric, (most of the more talented are) and a little strange, but that doesn't take away from the fact that he was hugely talented and loved WORLD WIDE....I mean hey even in very small towns where my hubby is from in Mexico knew and enjoyed his music....
I was a fan of his in the 80's not as much as my sister but a fan and my 17 yr old daughter liked alot of his music so he did (musically) transcend generations and I'm sure that will continue for many more years to come..
Ok there is my 2 cents.... :hippie::flower3:
Oh and on topic.. I would love to see a limited run of Cap't EO again but if it not to be well there is always YouTube;)

Maybe it's the thin air in Colorado ;) but I agree with you on most of what you posted. LOL

I will never argue that he had great talent, but it amazes me the things that people overlook.

And, to keep on topic - I didn't like Captain EO back then (before all the pedophile stuff started-or was public anyway) and after reviewing it on youtube a couple of weeks ago, I still don't like it.
I'm not saying HISTA is much better, but at least it's not as dark/scary.

I also agree with those who said it could be perceived as trying to make money on his death. I'm not saying that it would be Disney's intent and I don't think anyone would sue over it but it could certainly put Disney in a bad light.

Ewwwww let's move on. Out with the old in with the new, well mostly only in this case. LOL

The reason that we are able to look past whatever sick, twisted things he did, is the fact that we are remembering his work... not his lifestyle. MJ, did some very amazing things. Captain EO being one of them.

People still watch Roman Polanski movies... don't they?

No one, not even his fans, can deny that Jackson was sick. But he knew how to put on a show.

I will admit that it is no where even in the same league, but we all look past the fact that Walt Disney was a chain smoking, heavy drinking, short fused man with a temper that was often brought down unfairly upon his employees. Not to mention the whole "Disney is a anti-Semite" debacle. Not that I believe that bull, but a lot of people do!

Well, I don't care how great a football player OJ Simpson was or how funny and charming he was in the Naked Gun movies, nor do I care that some wacky jury decided he was "not guilty." Sometimes you just KNOW people did certain things if you have even a slightly sharp intuition...not to mention blood evidence and all kinds of other things pointing right at the person. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...well, you know the rest. So in that case, what he did, or what I FEEL VERY STRONGLY that OJ did, trumps all of his accomplishments and I think he deserves to be exactly where he is right now (except for life and not just 15 years) because he couldn't keep his arrogant butt out of prison, thinking he could get away with any crime he committed.

So, as far as Michael Jackson, yes, he was extremely talented and charismatic, enigmatic, electric, interesting, all of those things - and I say that not having really been a big fan of his (I think I got sick of him when we were saturated with his videos and songs in the '80s). But I do feel very strongly that most of his behavior was fueled by being out of touch with reality, a disturbing childhood that holds many secrets, a poor self-image, and wanting to remain a kid. I must say that some of the kids who 'came forth' against him when he was accused and on trial had very convincing testimonies (which were publicized in TV interviews and on news reports). I don't know if all of that was a very carefully orchestrated plot to extort money from MJ or not, or if all the accusations were true. Probably a little of both - probably in some cases, there were opportunistic parents trying to get money from MJ and in other cases, MJ probably did behave "inappropriately" with kids (I am cleaning it up for the airwaves here). I think even putting himself in any situation where people could get the wrong idea was stupid, but, again, I believe he was not in touch with reality and didn't realize that what he was doing was wrong. His PR and management team tried to get him to do things here and there to seem normal, i.e., get married and have kids, but you could tell that was never really 'who' he was. He could have had any woman he wanted if he had been interested. And now, all the stories are coming forth about how he was addicted to various Rx drugs and how he was so addicted to plastic surgery because he felt he was ugly and no one wanted him - which means he lied to the public every time he said his face was just naturally changing because of his skin condition. No, he was changing his own face and the world could see it. Maybe he had convinced himself of the lie. So if MJ could lie about THAT, then I think he could lie about 'other things' and convince himself that he wasn't lying and that he did nothing wrong.

Still, my intuition isn't as strong about MJ as it is about OJ. I still can't decide if I think MJ was just extremely childlike and out of touch with reality, leaving himself vulnerable to vultures to take advantage of him and exploit him, OR if I think he was much more disturbed deep down and was guilty of all he was accused of. I haven't made up my mind 100% yet, but as I said, some of the kids had very convincing stories.

In any case, if I knew FOR SURE that all of the allegations were true - sorry, I don't care how talented Michael Jackson was, his crimes would trump all of that for me because abuse is much more important issue than how talented he was in the scheme of things. It is different than the things Walt Disney was said to have been. Walt Disney sounds like he may not have been the nicest person, but what Michael Jackson was accused of is on a WHOLE different level. I just don't feel like I know for absolute certain that MJ did those things. I think he was very, very troubled, no matter how you look at it.

I think it's really sad that MJ lost Neverland and it fell into such disrepair because like Graceland for Elvis Neverland would be perfect for his final resting place. My opinion of course.

Oh Sherry you put it so well. Especially the MJ/OJ comparison. That is *exactly* how I feel.

How awful it was for me, on Thursday, to call into PPH, find out my room number, get to our room, get freshened up, turn on the TV and find out that he had died. Even with my 5 year old right there, I just burst into tears.

Before he went so nutty (or before I was aware of it), he had such good music...I remember tormenting my brother and dad on a trip to Yellowstone by listening to the Off The Wall cassette over and over and over and over (and over). I just loved it. I still have the Making of Thriller laserdisc.

I was so sad for those staying at DLR with me, who didn't know on Thursday, because the USA Today full front page newspaper was sitting there in front of all our doors on Friday...what a sad way to find out, what a weird place to find out...

It hit me hard...I thought of Madonna, who is only a few years away from the age my mom was when she died...I think of Duran Duran, etc etc...

Anyway, it's just sad to me, and I still feel OK feeling that way.
