I had a partial hysterectomy 5 weeks ago. One ovary remains, but I have been having the WORST time with hot flashes. Cannot wait to talk to the doctor about it. I thought they were getting better late last week, but they are way worse in the last couple of days. I'm afraid I might spontaneously combust!!

To anyone whom I've teased about hot flashes: I'm sorry! I'll never do it again!!

I went through natural menopause at the age of 48 and although I had my share of hot flashes, they were only at night and not too awful difficult to deal with..

On the other hand, I feel so sorry for my DD's MIL.. She went through menopause about 5 years ago and still to this day she gets the most horrendous hot flashes - day in and day out.. Worse yet, her cheeks turn fire engine red and it's very, very embarrassing for her..:( She's tried everything from hormones to vitamins and nothing will control them..

Considering yours was medically induced, I'm sure your doctor will have some suggestions for you..

I sure hope so. I did not expect this. I'm awakened 2-4 times a night by them, plus have them every few hours through the day. YUCK!

My friend has your symptoms. She has had them over a year. The only solution the doctor told her was HRT. She wakes 2 times a night and knows she is waking up her husband. She gets them constantly through the day. She is presently on a 5 week cruise so I hope she's managing okay. I'm sorry to hear you had a partial hysterectomy.

I was in the same boat with you 2 and half years ago. Except I was able to keep both of my ovaries. Let me give you some hope. Once your ovary kicks back in hopefully your hot flashes will get better. The Dr told me when I had mine done that the trauma of the surgery could cause my ovaries to not work for a little bit and man was he right. I would cry one minute and yell the next. I had mine in the middle of May and I would freeze my family because I was hot. And then I would roast them by turning the heat on in May because I was cold. It was pure hell. But things got better in time. I do still get PMS sometimes but not too often.

<---- seven years and counting.

The hot flashes started at age 42 and are just now starting to abate, to the point where I only get a few a week vs. several times a day. On the upside, we've saved a ton of $$ on our winter heating costs over the past few years, LOL.

Now if I can just get my old energy back, I'd be a happy camper.

I wish you the best and hope your hot flashes are short-lived.

I appreciate the encouragement, ya'll. Here's hoping that ovary kicks into gear soon! I go back to the dr on Monday for my 6 week checkup. I'll talk to him about this now. I really don't want to use HRT, which is the reason I wanted to keep one ovary.

I've been going through this for several years now. Good days, and bad days. Like someone else said what I experience more is the crying jags, then later yelling at people. I get angry for no apparent reason. :confused3

had my partial hysterectomy about 8 years ago, kept my ovaries. Just started getting hot flashes last year, but lately they've been worse than usual. Someone told me about black cohosh(sp) but I read studies saying that it wasn't that effective. I also read about green tea extract and those studies were showing promise--so I bought some and started it two weeks ago. Wow, I haven't had a hot flash since. I know this is just my experience, but you might want to try it.

I had a hysterectomy in 2000, kept both my ovaries and did not experience any hot flashes. Over the next year my mood swings increased tremendously. I went on Celexa and that has helped my mood swings. Now 9 years later I am experiencing hot flashes. They just put me on Alora and I am hoping it will help. I am the one who was always cold, slept with a blanket during the summer, put the sweater on in the movies, etc. Now I have a fan going at my feet because I keep going from normal to extremely HOT. Only occasionally do I get the red cheeks with my hot flashes.
