I went out and bought DH a new car!!

I am so excited. Right before he went home we test drove some SUV's, and he liked the Ford Escape the best. He has a Saturn now, and it is just too small with the kids. I hate getting in an out of it, especially because I am used to a Mini-Van.

We didn't get it then, because they were killing us with our trade in. We were about 3500 minus then.

Dh wanted to go get it once he came home. He hates buying cars, (actually any big ticket items) because it makes his stomach hurt to sit and go through the haggling etc.

We had been talking the past few days about what we wanted to pay, and what we wanted to loose on his Saturn. He had even asked me to go ahead and get approved through my credit union for the loan. I knew exactly what color and kind he wanted from when we test drove them before.

I did my research, and my local dealer had 2 of the exact kind he wanted. I get a no haggle price through my company, so the only haggling was with the trade in. First they wanted to give me $2500, and I got them to go up to $3200.

I told them I wanted to wait until Saturday to pick it up. They really tried to get me to take it home tonight, but I feel better feeling my husband out about different scenarios with pricing and the trade in.

I am going to pick him up with his NEW car, if I can get the guys at his base to get me a new base sticker for the car. I actually have to get one for my car too because I am getting a new windshield. A truck hit a rock onto my winshield last week. UGGH! It was an expensive rock!

Anyway, I am rambling now......I am just so excited and have no one to share it with.

That's a great surprise! We have the Escape and like it alot. It's big enough but not too big. We live in the city so parking is an issue and we didn't want anything too trucky. I think you will love it, congratulations!

What a nice surprise! I had a neighbor friend in Germany do this for her husband after the Gulf War. He had wanted a convertible(BMW or Mercedes??, it was Germany!) but would never buy one for himself. So she did it! She picked him up in it and he was thrilled !
What day will he be home?

I think he will be thrilled too. I go pick up the car in a half an hour. I did end up telling him.....he is so excited. I ended up spending a little more and getting him one with a moon roof. He used to have moon roofs all the time, but hasn't had one in a few cars.

Rumors are that they may leave May 1st, which would put him back in the states next Friday. I really hope so. Its still up in the air, and we hope to have a firm date maybe on Sunday. They have been given all of their out processing papers, and can start outprocessing. They were asked to bring in their chemical gear bags today so they could be packed up. These are all excellent signs, and he was told that Centcom has released them. They are just waiting for an air transport. They still aren't sure if it will be a C130 or a charter. Hopefully a charter. Its such much easier when you get fed and movies on a flight versus sitting on web seats and eating MRE's.

He say's he can see the light at the tunnel! Keep your fingers crossed. It's strange to think he could be sitting here with me next Saturday. I am almost scared to believe it.

What fun. So will your dh be surprised? Or does he know that you are buying the car, he must already know if you have discussed the trade in, etc. He will be so happy, though, won't he?

We almost bought a new car for him before he left, but at that time we were shocked at home much we were loosing on the trade in. A few weeks ago he told me to go get approved for a loan from my credit union, and I just decided to get it before he came home. I have a big mouth though, and I have already told him. He is really excited!!
