I wasn't planning on collecting this series, but...

Sometimes series or themes seem to just drop in our laps.
I had no intention of collecting puzzle pins, WWtBaM or Tokyo 100 Years Villains until trades I was not expecting just happened!
So I am wondering what pin series or theme anyone else has that wasn't planned and how did it get started?

My story and goal was a simple one. I innocently attempted to obtain a handful of DS state pins only from the states that I had some sort of connection to:

Illinois - my birth state
Georgia - my wife's birth state
Florida - where we currently reside (and home of WDW)
California - where the "Magic" began
Missouri - Something about a guy named "Walt"?

Well, when I managed to obtain these pins without a hitch, I was "hooked". I am now the proud owner of 32 different state pins and have all but given up on trying to get the rest. And I'm no even seeking Canada or PR. So tell us, what's your excuse?

1st set I hadn't planned to complete was the Bugs Life set.I had 2 of the pins and then I got the map and the 2 pins looked naked so I had to get the rest of the set.

2nd set was Small World 2000 Disneyana,I bought the 2 pins I liked, note a pattern, and then the more I thought about it I had to get the rest too.

3rd set,Small World Dangles, I was at DL in 3/00 when some of these pins made there debut. I had the Holland one and eventually had to have them all too.

4th set,since someone else mentioned it,the state pins. I was only going to get CA & NY pins (places I have lived) and get 4 other pins with the extra CA I could get. When I saw the state flags I thought some were pretty and bought extra CA pins to trade,34 US & 1 Ont pins later,I'm hooked.

My husband usually says,buy it when you see it otherwise we'll pay triple.

The Haunted Mansion Holiday stretch portraits.
I was wandering around DL and was scoping out the pin cart near IASW. Someone stopped me and she started admiring my pins for trade. One thing led to another and she really wanted some nonDL pins. She didn't have anything I wanted, and so I traded for 4 of the stretch portraits. Now I had to find the elusive 5th pin in the set. By the end of the day's trading at DL I had a complete set.
