I don't have an answer for that one. I was just hanging around for awhile and got caught up in the tagging frenzy :hyper: It was fun!! Just be patient and keep posting and making friendly conversation and it will happen!

T&B,
You'll have a wonderful time visiting Pittsburgh! Definitely see a Pirate game (our PNC Park where they play is really quite beautiful.) Our kids always enjoy Carnegie Science Center & adjacent to the Science Center is the UPMC Sports Works. Lots of interactive fun at these 2 venues. The Carnegie Museum in the Oakland section of town is a great way to spend another day. My kids love the dinosaur & Egyptian exhibits. I can't even begin to tell you how much we love Kennywood! :D I've been going there since I was a child (as has probably every resident of Western PA!) & it's a park rich in tradition. The park was actually founded in 1898 as a trolley park & although it has allowed growth over the years, it still holds that "charm" & history to so many of us here in the area that we almost hate to let others in on our secret that we think we have a pretty great park! Like Robert Walker says.....Kennywood's coasters are one of it's best features. They're not exactly "thrill" type in size & speed (like Cedar Point's), but are more known because of their age & uniqueness. The Steel Phantom is a newer steel coaster & is fabulous. The Jackrabbit is a wooden coaster that gives you "hang time" that will have you walking off going "Whoa!" & The Racers are the only twin coaster (at least I think) that is actually one continuous track & not two separate tracks. Be there when the park opens & the line for the Steel Phantom won't be as long. There's nothing about the park you won't like! Sandcastle is the only decent waterpark near the city & with the wave pool & slides, I think you'll be able to spend the day there too.....we always make a full day of it. And yes, there are a few "waterplay" areas for the younger ones in your family. Gotta get back to work right now, but if I think of any other "gotta see" places, I'll PM you. Enjoy your stay in our beautiful city & let me know how you liked it when you return. :D

Pittsburgh sounds great. Kennywood sounds like our type of place--glad to know that we'd probably like it. My 10yo and I really want to go back to Dorney Park and it sounds like Kennywood would fit the bill. We'd also like to go to Ceder Point some time and actually considered it instead of Pittsburgh, but my 10yo is not an upside down coaster rider and my 4yo is too little for the big rides, so figured we'd wait on that.

We've been wanting to go to Pittsburgh for awhile and have a few free days (with no real vacation plans this summer) and it is tops on our list.

Would one day for both the science center and Sports Works be enough (one day total I mean, not each place)? Then one day for Kennywood and one for Sandcastle. Maybe we could go to a Pitates game on the day we go to Sandcastle. We'd probably spend about 4 days, including travel time (about 3 1/2 hours each way), but could probably swing another day if we need it.

Is there a better day of the week to go to these places? The Sandcastle website says it's better to go on weekends. Is that accurate?

Thought I'd post here since someone else might be able to use the information. Sorry for hijacking the post. :teeth:

Thanks for your help!

We went to Kennywood last summer on our way down to Williamsburg. Unfortunately, it started to thunderstorm in the middle of the day and we didn't get all the coasters done:(

Then last Thanksgiving, our ice hockey team played in a tournament (and won it!!!). We did lots of shopping at the little mall near us that had a TJMaxx and also at the big mall. We had a great time and everyone was very, very friendly to us Canadians.

Tigger&Belle,
Since I already feel bad that I've hijacked this thread :scared1: I've sent you a PM with more info. about Pittsburgh.;)
