My brother and I went to the mall earlier and on the way back we were driving along a really busy road. I saw a puppy run out in front of the car next to us and get clipped. Then it spun into our lane and my brother slammed on the brakes but too late and we ended up clipping it too. It got hit on my side and when I felt it hit the car I thought we had run over it and I literally went into hysterics. My brother said I actually screamed which I don't remember doing. He said it ran off so I know it wasn't dead but I couldn't stop crying. I'm okay now but I am such a big animal person like my sister and that really freaked me out. Poor little doggy. :(

I feel so sorry for you and the dog. But you must remember that your brother did everything he could and he couldn't put human lives in danger. I always say a little prayer for safety anytime I see an animal near the roadway.

{{{{{{HUGS}}}}} to you, Julie. I always hate it when I think I've hit something or actually have!:(

I'm sorry that happened, and I know how you feel. ((hugs))
Several years ago, one morning on my way to work, I hit a cat. It came running out of a soybean field right up next to the road and there was absolutely nothing I could do, but slam on the brakes. Too late. I felt terrible, and cried too. I'm a softie for animals. I always hate to see animals out just running loose, too easy for them to run into the road and get killed. :(

I'm not upset with my brother or the other driver. They both did what they could without putting anybody in danger. If it came down to it I'd rather he have killed the puppy than a person. I'm just upset that it happened at all.

I am sorry that happened to you.

I am also sorry for that puppy. I just wish more people would leave their pets inside, or at the very least keep them on a leash.

Today I was driving down a highway in the country and I saw a beautiful black lab standing right next to the road. I wasn't sure what it was going to do so I started slowing down although I wouldn't have been able to miss it had it decided to step out in the road. I kept saying to myself "Just stay where you are buddy, just stay where you are". Thankfully the dog did just that because it tears me up when animals (especially dogs and cats) are hit by cars.

I'm always picking up animals running down the road, I just scooped up a black lab puppy on Thursday. I found the owner pretty quickly, seems he had bolted out the door and she was frantic. That is why I'm such a big fan of my inivisible fence, it keeps my labbie safe, he is not tempted to run after anything. Last year I scooped up a greyhound running down the road, grabbed him when he stopped to do his business. I keep a leash, collar and dog treats in my car for emergency pet retrieval. I just can't drive by a dog running around a busy road. What drives me crazy is when people don't put id tags on their pets.

Kallison...BLESS YOU!

I wish there were more people out there like you.
Just please be careful when you pick them up.

I work at a vet clinic and every once and a while we find dogs running around outside our place.

There is one woman who blames neighbor kids for letting her dog out. I don't think so...this is a time when kids are in school.

We had one about a month ago that had a collar, leash, but no tag. We called for our local dog shelter to pick it up.
I asked him how many days they would keep it and he said three.
Even with a leash and collar, just three days.
He also told me that a lot of the dogs with a leash and collar are never looked for.

Sad, just sad. When you get a pet, it is for their lifetime. I wish people would take more time before they decide to get a pet.

I too hate to see animals near the road. I used to live off a main road (17/92) in Kissimme and the speed limit is 55 where the house was. The people up the street had two little puppies. Well one day I saw these little pups running down the street straight towards 17/92. I came off my porch and called them. They were very friendly and came right over. I played with them a bit to get their trust then went walking up the road. The little kid who owned them was waiting for his school bus and was very surprised to see me with his puppies. Seems they climbed right under the fence and no one knew they could do this (it really was a small area and I was surprised they fit under). He and his mom were very thankful that I had seen them. It could have been such a tragedy if they made it to the road. They immediately set up two runs in the yard so they would be on leashes.
