I spent 9 hours yesterday decorating the Automobile Club float entitled "Family Road Trip". The first 3.5 hours included cutting, fluffing and toothpicking 4000 lavendar carnations for the base of the float. After lunch, I was promoted to attaching asparagus fern to the base. When they were looking for a tall person for mum duty on the top of the float I quickly volunteered. I climbed the scaffolding and helped assemble purple mums, gold mums, brussel sprouts, more aparagus fern, dendrobium orchids sprays and the most beautiful purple orchids. I had a slight injury and left before the roses were being attached to the base of the float.

I met some great people who volunteer countless hours every year and I can't wait to go back again next December.

If you are in the Southern California area next December, I highly recommend signing up to be a float decorating volunteer too.

Thanks for giving us a picture of the activities involved! I never "knew" anyone that actually worked on the floats!~ How totally cool! How did you get involved!
Just too cool. Good Job. I will try and keep my eyes peeled for the float and think of "tink33"........

Very Cool!
I have the parade on now, but was really just paying attention to the Disney stuff. Ill have to watch for your handy work. Hope I didnt miss it. :)
And I hope your injury wasnt too bad and you are recovering.

There it is! There it is! :)
Thats amazing! Great job, Lesley!

Just saw it! I think somehow it looks so much better than the others!! ;)

I decorated a float one year when I was in college - I was on the midnight shift and it was COLD!! I would highly recommend staying on the day shift!

I wish I could have watched the parade. We drove home from El Paso, so all I got to see was the beginning of the parade with the B2 flying overhead (yeaa) ... and then we hit the road.

I think that's great, Tink33, that you were able to help decorate that float - what a neat experience. :)
