I have not, nor do I ever plan to wear the fanny type thongs. Of course I have done things on a whim, so who knows. Maybe it would be worth buying some just to embarrass said children.

My 12yo and I did have fun picking out his last athletic cup. I had no idea that child could let loose at Sports Authority like that (he's my "what will people think?" child--my ohter boys are goofy like me, by my DD and my 12yo boy embarrasss easily). We discussed in detail the advantages and disadvantages to every cup style.

And do you think that you actually own your thread?

Haley, if men start wearing those white jackets I just might have to change teams (not that my DH will wear it)!

oh boy I just saw Don JOhnson in a t-shirt and sports coat...wow!!! Tho I'm not a Collin Ferril fan so I won't be seeing the movie...but Miami Vice marathon's on TVLand always get my attention!!

I can see your child wanting to die of embarassment at the thought of talking to mom about the athletic cups....although I have to say the best thing I ever saw was at my brother's t-ball game many moons ago some of the boys hadn't put theirs in place and were running around with them over their faces like they were masks now that was funny!!

Tara, are you a signer? Do you interpret? I don't, but am fluent in ASL. (or at least was 2 years ago when I worked as a social worker in a clinic for Deaf and Hard of hearing people.) I think I want to get my certificate and do a little work around here (good part time job for a SAHM.) I never liked interpreting before when I was a Social Worker, but now being the impartial interpreter seems appealing now.

So many peoples names stand for things only they understand and aren't as cute as that one. So often it is just letters and numbers that no one else has. I am like you, If I can't read the name I just glance over them and identify them by the sig or avatar.

Actually, it was my 12yo who was really getting into discussing the advantages of one cup over another. The kid has potential, even though I think of his as my more uptight child.

Your t-ball comment reminds me of one t-ball game that I was at. One of the boys came up to me and said, "Good thing I have my weenie cup on because the ball hit me there" and he then took his fist and hit himself in the nuts. I told him, "thanks for sharing that with me" and I just about collapsed with laughter. Couldn't believe a 6yo was talking that way--my son didn't even know what a cup was. He recently found his big brother's cup and thought it was something to drink out of, except the holes in it really threw him. How he can be so innocent with 3 older siblings, not to mention me as his mother I'll never know!

I actually use this for my lic. plate also. The funniest comment I got on it once was a little old man in rural Suffolk, VA who saw it and came over to me to find out what it meant:

old man: YOUNG LADY, what does your license plate mean? (scowling the whole time)
me: (bubble, perky 20 yo) It says "I sign for you". I becoming a teacher for the deaf and I do sign language.

old man: well you know it looks like "I sin for you". And so you need to change it. (nose in the air)
me: uh, but it has the "e" on the end so that you know the "y" is a long "i" sound.
old man: no it doesn't and I'm a pastor and I think you should change it.

I just stood there with my mouth open staring at him as he walked on. I was at a gas station so I got back in my little car and left and after a while I thought it was pretty funny.

One person thought my name was pronounced "is whinny for you"

That describes me too. Just social work instead of teaching. Funny thing I found out when doing my MSW internship at Detroit Day school for the Deaf. The poor teachers there could talk your ear off when ever they had the chance. Something about spending all day with deaf kids.

Funny story. I can just see the old man now. I am sure he is rather the dictator in his little town. I beat the teens just love him.

Tara, what a funny story. I can see the man telling you what he thought it said and laughing, but insisting that you change it was a bit much. One of our vans has a play on words--like the toy store, but with noise instead of toys. PhD has met us--she can vouch that we're noisy, but the funny thing is that we applied for that tag when Jake was in infant and was very quiet. We had no idea that he would be the noisiest one of the bunch.
