Highs & Lows

I woke up around 7:30 on Monday morning. I had some last minute packing to do, toiletries and such, and I was waiting for my cousin Adam to arrive. We were all meeting at my sister's house (she lived closest to the airport) around 10.

Well....that didn't happen. Adam got there on time but I was still running around getting ready. We left the house around 8:45 - 9 ish and I still had to pick up Alex to take him to the rental car place. We were renting a car to take all 5 of us to JFK so we had enough room and didn't have to deal with parking fees. Alex works for Hertz so he got us great deals. By the time I picked Alex up and got to the Hertz location, it was already close to 10. They gave us a really nice car, a Nissan Armada. I was hoping for a minivan because that would've just been funny, but no dice.

We FINALLY got to my sister's a little after 10:30. Oops. Kris was already there and that had went on a coffee run. My sister drinks coffee like water. She always needs her fix! They got there about 2 minutes after we pulled up and we got all our luggage into the car and we were off! I was worried about traffic. The Verrazano bridge and Belt Parkway are notorious for traffic jams but...no traffic! :yay: We got to the airport by 11:30, dropped the car off, and had to take the AirTrain over to our terminal. We were checking in by noon, through security and in our terminal by 12:30. We were all hungry so we grabbed something to eat in the food court. The JetBlue terminal at JFK is the nicest terminal I've ever seen by the way! By the time we ate, we only had about a 10 minute wait until our boarding time. They boarded us a little late so we took off a little late but here we are, finally on the plane!

Adam was a little nervous but he handled it ok. It was his first flight EVER! He was a little freaked out during take off and landing, not knowing what certain sounds were and how fast the plain actually traveled, but overall he seemed ok.

A little bit into our flight, I asked Alex to take a picture out the window.

SAM_0057.jpg

Our flight was nice and uneventful, despite taking off a little later than we were supposed to. I never want to fly with anyone but JetBlue ever again. Plenty of leg room, unlimited snacks, first checked bag is free, DirecTV on the flight. I was really impressed. I've never flown anyone but Continental and they are awful. I'm bummed I have to fly with them next week for my fam. But I'm straying off topic here.

We landed only about 10 minutes later than we were supposed to and we claimed our bags pretty quickly. Then it was off to Hertz to pick up our rental for the week. We wandered around a little bit. Alex is a Hertz Gold member and we couldn't find the right counter so we took a little tour of ground transportation and went up and down the escalators a few times until we finally found it...across the street from the terminal. :rotfl: We got a Dodge Journey.

Not a picture of our actual car but this is what it looked like to give you an idea:

We got the car loaded up and we were FINALLY on our way to Disney World! Let me tell you, the road from the airport has a lot of tolls on it! :sad2: After about a half hour, we saw this sign!

And then this one (sorry, I was in the back seat!)

SAM_0059.jpg

Check in was painless. I had utilized online check-in and we walked right up to the desk, there was no one in the lobby. They handed us our packet and my birthday pin as well as Alex and Adam's 1st visit pins and we walked back to the car to move it over to the nearest lot. We were in the 50s section, building 1, the Lady building. On our way back to the car, I snapped a couple pictures:

Kris and I ended up in 1347 and the rest of our party in 1346. I had requested a king bed for Kris and I but we didn't get it. Ah well! We had adjoining rooms so it made it easy in the morning to wake each other up! I couldn't believe we were finally here!! We unpacked quickly, freshened up a bit, and headed over to Everything Pop to grab something to eat before we headed over to....MAGIC KINGDOM! It was open until 1 AM that night. Would we get to the best rides in the park? Stay tuned to find out....

Hi, welcome! I'll have to check out your TR as well. :) I love reading about other people's trips. Thanks for reading :)

Sounds like a great trip with great friends! Can't wait to read more!

Melissa

I'm here too:goodvibes

We were at Pop from August 26th-September 7th and were also in the 50's section.

Looking forward to more

I'm checking in!

WOOO!! The TR!

Hey- you were only 30 minutes behind schedule, not bad, not bad!! AND, no traffic! That's great- I bet you were really relieved. Cute pic of you and Kris!

Glad to hear you liked JetBlue! I didn't know they had DirecTV on the flight!

Great pictures of POP! How was the 50s building? We requested it for our trip next week. I've heard good and bad about the location. That stinks about the king bed. :( At least you tried!

I can't wait to read more! Glad you had a great time!

I'm here I'm here!!!! I own a Dodge Journey and I've never seen so many in my life...I counted 10 of them on our way from the airport to POP. Jet Blue seems really nice, we always fly southwest bc I'm cheap lol Can't wait to hear more!!

I'm here too.... Sounds like a fab journey - we have a 9 hour flight on Friday to get there, hope it goes as smoothly...

popcorn::popcorn:: love trippies with loads of pics.

I was wondering when you'd show up!

The 50s buildings are great (they're purple!), we were toward the back end of the Lady building facing the parking lot. Not the best view but whatever, we were only sleeping there. You're about a 3 minute walk to the main building and you have your own pool area. The only thing I had a complaint about was that they were renovating the rooms on the first floor so it was noisy in the morning.

I'd never even heard of a Dodge Journey lol. It was nice! JetBlue is awesome. Southwest doesn't fly out of the airports around here except Philly and that's too much of a drive. JetBlue was less expensive than Continental so we went with them. So glad I did!

Hi, welcome!

I promise lots of pictures, I took a whole bunch plus what my cousin took!

I'm telling you, that's where they put the cool people. :cool2:

Yup, at the very start of the Jersey Shore, near Sandy Hook :)

I left off with us eating at Everything Pop. I don't remember what everyone else had but I got a chili cheese dog with fries and tye dye cheesecake (!) for dessert. The bun for the hotdog was so drenched I just ate the hot dog and toppings. I couldn't even lift it up! I ate most of my tye dye cheesecake and had talked it up so much that everyone tried a piece and liked it. I remember that my cousin Adam was excited they offered worms & dirt as a dessert option (chocolate pudding w/gummi worms). And my sister is not a dessert person and carried her carrot cake around with her in MK. :rotfl:

Anyway, after a quick dinner, we headed outside to wait for the MK bus. It came in no time and we were off! We got to MK between 8 & 8:30. As we turned down Main Street, I heard Adam say 'There it is!' as he caught site of the castle.

We headed over to Tomorrowland first to see what the wait was like for Space Mountain.

The line was around 70 minutes so we opted to fast pass it. Buzz Lightyear was also a long line (for Buzz) so we decided to come back to that as well. What was our first ride of the trip, you ask?

SAM_0062.jpg

I couldn't believe it either. :sad2: Adam really wanted to ride it, the wait was only 5 minutes, and who was I to say no? Everybody got a kick out of it. I enjoyed it more than usual because I couldn't smell it when he burped! No one could. Did they take that out of the ride??

Anyway, after Stitch, we went on the Peoplemover. They jammed us all into one car. I was in the middle and was NOT comfortable but hey, I was in Disney World. I'm not complaining.

We missed the Electrical Parade but I wanted to make sure we saw Wishes. We had a little bit of time before they started and the Buzz Lightyear ride was walk on at this point so we ran over there quickly. I rode with Kris and beat him! I think I scored about 93,000. He was 10,000 points shy of my score. ;)

A quick picture of my sister in the gift shop. I eventually got this hat for my nephew AJ. He asked for 'the aliens from toy story stuff.'

SAM_0063.jpg

We didn't get the best spot for Wishes. We were on the Tomorrowland bridge right under the wire where Tink flies and had a tree in our view of the castle but that's what you get for waiting last minute! Some pictures courtesy of Adam.

I got a little miffed at Adam after Wishes because he said that Six Flags does a great job on their fireworks and theirs are just as good. Please.

Anyway, after Wishes we headed over to Haunted Mansion which was practically walk-on. Alex seemed to be liking everything so far but Adam thought it was 'kind of cheesy.' Again  If it's not a thrill ride...

We headed over to Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain and those barely had waits at all, 10 to 15 minutes if that. Adam and Kim ended up on the front row of Splash Mountain and everyone loved the ride. Everyone also loved BTMRR. I love that ride at night!

After the mountains, we headed over to Pirates. This was the one shot that came out! The most famous scene.

64652_437424407943_620842943_5319940_4929006_n.jpg

We wandered around the gift shop for a bit. I was looking for this beach towel I saw last year of Jack Sparrow but I couldn't find it. :( I found this awesome hat though.

SAM_0080.jpg

After POTC it was time for....DOLE WHIPS! Another thing I had talked up (the pineapple float actually) so Alex and Adam decided to get one. Alex ate that thing fast so I'm assuming he must've enjoyed it. :rotfl: While I was waiting on line, Kris came running over to wish me a happy birthday since it was after midnight :) He and Kim tried some of my float and liked it as well. I ate mine as we walked over to Space Mountain to use our fastpasses.

When we got there, the ride was down but it opened up after about 5 minutes. We walked right on. I don't know if it was such a good idea to go on that after a tummy full of dole whip but everyone liked it. I heard a lot of laughter from everyone anyway.

After Space Mountain, we were done for the night. It had been a long day and we had another long day ahead of us tomorrow. Would we see some animals the next day? Would everyone like Ohana? Would they play NKOTB at Jellyrolls? Stay tuned to find out!

What a great night!!! It is kind of a bummer to see Wishes from a weird angle, but at least it's still Wishes!!
