HELP!! The kids and I really want to go back on another Disney cruise but my husband is being a party pooper. He wants to try a different ship, preferably RCCL. He says he doesn't want to do another Disney Cruise because we've already done it twice (Aug 31, 2002 and Dec. 13, 2003) on the 7 day cruise.
I'm trying to sell him on the kids program (the kids can't stop talking about it) and the fact that we have been twice and we still didn't finish seeing everything. The menu was different both times (except for my favorites at Palos, including our server, Christian). We also went to both the Eastern and Western Caribbean and this time I was trying to talk him into going to the Mexican Cruise or the Panama Cruise.

Can someone help me out for our fight to go on another one? My kids and I thank you for any good ideas. If you have any good reason why we should go on a RCCL, I guess I will listen to that too. Maybe.... :earboy2:
Thanks,
Kitty

We've done both DCL and RCCL so have some experience with both. Honestly, since you've already done DCL a couple of times, I'd recommend giving RCCL a try, at least one of the Voyager class ships. My 11 year old son actually preferred RCCL as there were more activities geared towards him. He's very active and loved the inline skating, mini-golf, ice skating etc. And had a better time in the kids club. We truly enjoyed our Disney cruise but like the variety other ships have to offer.

We've also sailed Carnival, one of the Fantasy class ships built in the mid 90s. Other than the food and ports of call, I wouldn't recommend this line. But RCCL is on par with Disney, at least from my perspective.

it's a comprimise, my hubby does not always go with us because he went the year before with the family, some people are just not into disney, this is wy we now do every other year and next year someplace else, do what he wants then next time u and the kids, be fair, i'm kidding, be fair and wait till next year, you know how those men pout-lol

I vote to try RCCL. You don't want to burn your husband out on Disney. I love Disney and could go to any of their properties once a moonth, but my wife is different. We went 4 times in 5 years right after we got married and took the Disney Cruise the last 3 years and she is burnt out of Disney. Now when I mention it she get's a little annoyed. It's not that she hates Disney, she like's it, but she just wants to try or go somewhere different. I say since you already went 2 years in a row, try RCCL. Make a deal with him though, if they don't like it, you're going back to Disney the next time.

DW is the party pooper at my house. After our second DCL cruise, I booked at least three other DCL cruises, and had to let the reservations lapse because DW said she felt she'd already done that vacation. Including last week's first ever 10 day cruise, including some of the alternate Eastern itineraries, made no difference. Finally got the thumbs up for this coming spring break on the Magic, and then added this month's Wonder to make up for a cancelled WDW trip (and take advantage of a significant travel credit that was bound to expire and was not applicable to WDW).

Perhaps your hubby and my DW should be introduced and we can sail, LOL.

Seriously, go ahead and try RCCL, we are going to sail w/ them in '06, and I have a hunch that after this spring, when DS will sail his 4th DCL cruise and will be 9, he might be like the child mentioned above who is active and prefers the RCCL programming.

But it sure is mystifying that you can go home and have to talk someone into going on a Disney Cruise, isn't it? Who'd a thunk it?

Can't really help much with your DH, but just a point..... I'm not sure about the Mexican cruises, but both Panama Canal cruises have been sold out and waitlisted for several months. I've heard that DCL is no longer accepting people on the waitlists because they are already so long.

Good Luck!!

I too thought the canal cruises, and ALL the West Coast cruises were already sold out. I believe the canal cruises were sold out the first day.
Why not do BOTH an RCCL and Disney cruise out of Orlando? A 3 day on one and a 4 day on the other, back to back. We cruised the Soverign Of The Seas back in 1986 when it was only a few months old, it is a great ship.

I think your family will enjoy RCCL, if you are on a Voyager class ship. There are a lot of activities. We took our son at 17 and he had a great time. In the evening there was a separate disco just for the teens which I haven't seen on other ships. He also really enjoyed the opportunity to go ice skating - they have a rink and there are several opportunities during the cruise for passengers to skate. I love Disney too, but it's nice to try a variety of vacation options.

RCCL is the next cruise line I would like to go on. We have been on 2 carnival cruises & 2 Disney cruises. We enjoyed all of them but also want to try others.

Looks like I will throw my cards in and go on a RC cruise. I thought I read that they only have the kids club until 10pm and then you have to make reservations if you would like your kids watched (and pay extra). I hope that's not true. How silly!

I didn't really like the 7 day itenarary for the Mexican cruise (3 stops in a row and then two days at sea till you get home), but as long as I get to go on my Disney Cruise next time, I guess I can suffer.

Now DH is saying he wants to travel around Thanksgiving instead of summer. Which do you prefer when cruising Mexico?

OH...logan1_2000.....I have no idea why one would have to bribe or beg another to go on a Disney Cruise. I guess it's just in the genes. :earboy2:
Aloha!

ps. How do I know which ship is a "Voyager" Class???

moochinkassarole - yes, it is true about paying extra for the kids cruise after 10 PM. However, at least for us, the Voyager cruise was cheaper than our 3 day Wonder cruise on a day for day basis. And, stateroom size was equal.

To find out more about RCCL and all of it's ships, the best forum to peruse is www.cruisecritic.com. You'll find reviews of all the ships as well as very active discussion boards.

Our best friends swear by the RCCL Voyager class ships but have never done DCL. We plan to go with them in 2006 on a RCCL cruise for their 25th anniversary but will come right back to DCL.
